You know, I hear it said sometimes that cats, like me, who are…ahem…koff, koff…a bit over the age of like 4000 minutes…don’t like to play anymore.

And I say to that…pfffttt!!

We are CATS!! And CATS are born to play…hunt…search out new horizons…

Ok, ok…sorry…started to sound a bit similar to Mom L’s favorite of all favorite type movies etc…*whisper over shoulder*  She and Dad P are ‘trekkies’…*embarrassed ears*

Moving on; I gave a demonstration today , with Mom L’s help, to make sure you all know…we cats who are over 4000 minutes old still cherish our time to hunt, attack, sneak,…etc.

This MY dedded feather!

This MY dedded feather!

And then we need to be able to sneak about…right?

What?! Surely, you do not know I am here!!

What?! Surely, you do not know I am here!!

Of course we also must be allowed to be secretive…

Nope! No one in here

Nope! No one in here

Come on Mom L, you are giving me away!

Come on Mom L, you are giving me away!

O Cod!!  She just will NOT quit!

That does it! I don't want to engage with you anymore!

That does it! I don’t want to engage with you anymore!

That ought to be proof enough…we cats of a slightly advanced age still desire, demand and must have our time to hunt, attack, sneak…and if we are indoors…we call that PLAY!!!

  1. Love reading your posts and seeing your pictures, miss Savvy, even if I don’t come as often and I’d want to. Jay and Satchie say hello, by the way 🙂

  2. Have toys… Will play.

What fun you are having sweet Savannah we love seeing you having such a good time. You are looking mighty beautiful too we must say. We say that cats never get to old for any of that. Our Patches was almost 20 and Lil’ Dumplin’ was 20 and they both still hunted, played, and at times ran and romped through the house like kittens. Hugs and nose kisses

  6. Oh Sav, I just love seeing photos of you playing like that!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  7. Adult kitties and doggies still need to play for sure Savvy! Oskar the Samoyed was playful at 12yrs. Miss Sophie the cat is 8 and plays all the time with Miss Amanda. Mazie loves to play at almost 9 and Ralphie and I play every night and he is going to be 6 and is “middle aged”. Play is what keeps us young! Looking fun and fiesty my beautiful friend!

  8. Adults and even senior kitties love to play!

  9. Oh yeah…that peacock feather will get you moving every time!

  10. I am 14 and I love to play. Mum throws my soft rubber ball for me and I bat it back to her. I like to play zoomies too.

  11. That’s so true, Savvy! Play is important to keep us senior kitties healthy and alert. Plus, it’s FUN! 🙂

  12. You’re never too old to play Savvy!

  13. S & S…no one…knot two leggerz…. ore four leggers…is ever two old ta play…we all still play…. N de trekkie….original cast pleez…food serviss gurl… still plays games on her game boy long & prosper…. ♥♥♥

Phantom would so agree with you, Savannah – he has his own unique way of playing too, but he never lets us in on the viewing of his fun:)

    We totally agree ! Purrs

  16. Um.. I’m a trekkie.. and I’d love to play with you..

  17. Agreed! I’m getting up there but continue to play like a kitten. I love to run. I may do it less often but I still run and play and there’s usually a peacock feather involved.

  18. Oh, cute. I myself am hanging out in my new box in the living room!

  19. MOL! We love to play in tunnels too, Savannah. Why would anyone thing that us kitties stop playing? That is just crazy…

  20. My Auntie Marsha is visiting. While she and the housekeeper were out yesterday, I explored Auntie’s knitting bag. I will show this post to my housekeeper who was upset at what I did; Auntie Marsha just laughed and cut off a length of yarn and played with me. Your friend Dinah, RWB (reader without blog.)

  21. I would like to play with you and your feather… I like feathers very much (I probably have some feline genes) Oh I see you are in your tunnel… maybe you can stop by at my crib, it’s so boring to be condemned to a bed rest and I would like some visitors … oh and maybe you can bring that feather too?

Age is not an indicator of anything (in our humble opinion). Play keeps you young for sure! Bella is 10 in dog years (she’ll be 11 in December), and she still loves to play, go for walks, and last weekend she even herded some sheep at an event we went to! She also loves learning new tricks like her younger siblings. Yup, play is good for the soul!

Cats are never too old to play but they do need to have some new toys sometimes and/or old toys rubbed with nip.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  24. Cat = Play.
And don’t you let anyone tell you different.

  25. Age has nothing to do with it. Nibbles used to dash round playing follow me leader when he was supposed to be rough 80 years old in hooman years!

  26. That is the happiest news ever. I never want you to stop playing! And I don’t ever want to stop either – even though I’m supposed to rest with my stitches. Rest? Never heard of it!

    Love and licks,

  27. Well said Savvy my girl…….those of us of a “certain age” may have some issues but not wanting to play isn’t one of them!

    Hugs, Sammy

  28. Playing is super important for ‘older’ pets Savvy..and it is always funny seeing a senior cat caught out being a kitten…our old girl Squash at 17 had her crazy playtimes and would look so ashamed when we saw her 🙂 🙂 but hey I play too and I am older than dirt..keeps me young :0 loves Miss Bev xxx

  29. Well of course there is the hunter/huntress in every cat of any age! Good to see the beast in you dear Savvy 😀

  30. My FunTom is a very laid back kind of cat – they say it comes with being neutered. But just yesterday I had a friend around and since he knows that friend he was very playful to get our attention, meowing when he lay in hiding, under the clothes on the clothes rag, looking as if he was about to attack an invisible prey any moment.
He even loves chasing the red dot, now and then, just not for very long, with his heart he has to go slowly. FunTom is nine and a half.

  31. You are so right Savvy, our older sisfur Peanut (18) is vibrant and lively enough to Rip around the house at speed! Age is all in the cat mind and a bit of cat body 🙂 You Go Sister!!!

    Harvey Button

  32. play has nothing to with age. every cat must play we think. emma is 6 and has not been an avid “player” but she does get her crazy on with play sometimes.

Sounds about right to us. Looks like a good day, Savannah. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  34. Boodie and Binga are 13 and 14 respectively, and they still play lots! In fact, my human says that Boodie is one of the most playful cats she has ever had (even if most of the time she plays by herself!).

Waving paw...HI!...what'd 'cha think...??
