Smooch the Paw—Don’t De-Claw
HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!
Seriously, I am trying to be ALMOST wordless on this Wednesday post. But—well, you all know I am a very wordy ladycat.
Mom L has this fantasy that one day, she will be able to smooch my toesies.
Dream on Mom L!! MOL!
So now comes the serious part, isn’t it so much more pleasant to smooch a cat’s paws, than to de-claw those very same paws?
What say you all my readers, let me know you thoughts in comments—and give me your thoughts on how we can change the USA to embrace what so many other countries have already dealt with—
Those toosies are made for loving, not for harming! Nailed Pawkisses for the occasion 🙂 ❤ ❤
It really is shameful that the U.S. is lagging behind so many other countries in this. It’s not a nail trim! It’s amputation!!!
We agree! Declawing should be outlawed!
Banned here along with tail docking..butchers declaw vets respect the paw! loves Miss Bev xx
We couldn’t agree more, Savvy! Declawing should be banned! I don’t understand how any vet could do it…
Excellent post. I think anyone that declaws a cat should have to have the equivlent done to them.
Kitty toes are adorable. Doggie toes aren’t bad either… I hope your mom’s dream comes true soon.
Love and licks,
Cupcake

Love your toesies especially the little white “fingertips.” When we got Faith, our first cat, we knew squat about caring for cats. We took other’s advice and they all said to get her declawed at the same time she was spayed so we did that. When she came home, Gramma took one look at those bandaged paws—all 4— and declared she’d never do that to another cat and she didn’t. Years later, we learned what was really involved from a friend who was a vet tech and had to assist in those surgeries until her vet stopped performing them.
experience is a rough teacher, but usually very thorough. Mom L has learned a ton from experience. purrs
You have the cutest feets
Snorts,

We wholeheartedly agree! Smooth the paw, don’t declaw!
I didn’t even know about the de-clawing thing before I started reading blogs like yours. I can’t believe it is not illegal
Paws are for so many things – declawing is not one of them!
It’s like keeping a fish without water or not allowing a berd to fly… cats&claws belong together, no ifs not buts …
Declawing isn’t done in the UK – it is the most painful thing that can be done and we hope any one who does declaw a cat gets their nails pulled out so they realise it hurts a lot.
Declawing is a complete NO. I have heard tell of vets declawing in UK, but they were given ultimatum of declaw or kill the cat. This is rotten, and blackmail, and vets should not being doing this to pamper to peoples furniture needs or in one case a divorce.
Equally people who have asked to have cats declawed shouldn’t be allowed to have them, as it is mutilation and an abuse of the cats rights and our privilege as guardians, certainly in our minds. Too strong a view, I think not…
I am glad that German cats are safe from this!
Wow – Summer says it all. This horrifying practice must stop NOW! Good grief it’s insane INSANE!!!
Everywhere in the U.S. where declawing has been outlawed or severely restricted, there has been a HUGE battle with the big veterinary association to accomplish this. I don’t get why that is – isn’t part of being a veterinarian promising to “do no harm?” And I can’t think of many things more harmful than this awful, mutilating operation!
Well, the vets get some serious cash from these mutilating surgery …
