Tigger Update: Friday Frolics

SPT sidebar 02

Well, I am late today but I have a very, very good reason…

You see Tigger is having a long weekend at Kitty Corner, my former shelter, while his foster guardian Miss Tammy has a get-away.  The good news is that now Tigger will meet more of the volunteers and they will obviously luvluvluv him so much they will talk to all their friends.

And even better, over the weekend is when the public often visit Kitty Corner to pick out a kitty to whom they want to offer a forever home.  And Tigger is such a great big love bug…we just know if the perfect peeps show up…then Tigger will be snatched up!!! Keep all paws crossed, okay???

The bad news is that Mom L and Dad P need to go over each morning and evening to give Tigger some pain med.  The vet clinic that did his dental 2 weeks ago failed to give him any antibiotics before or after his dental…and he had severe gingivitis and required extraction of both his upper molars which are the largest teeth in a cat’s mouth…so stitches.  Still, no antibiotic was considered and guess what??

Yep, Tigger developed an infection so Mom L and Dad P took him to the vet again and they finally gave him both an antibiotic injection and some pain med.  Tigger is feeling a WHOLE lot better now!

Check out the ‘SELFIES’ Tiggy took this morning when Mom L had him in her lap (Tiggy loves laps and brushes)

Mom L was feeling pretty eager to get more new images of Tigger so she also tried doing a video using her smart phone. Miss Lisa from A Tonk’s Tail taught a great session at this year’s Blog Paws about how to do short videos to help promote shelter cats…(turn up your sound…you might hear him purring right at the beginning)

So, how do you think Mom L did with her first try at doing a promotion video for Tigger??? Besides the fact that she stuck her finger over the camera once and giggled it some…oh, and she forgot to mention Tigger’s age and how he has all his vaccines and he is micro chipped…sigh…Mom L still has lots to learn.

One last thing…several of you wanted to know how that DIY project turned out for Dad P and The Kid Sage…

A project near and dear to Dad P’s heart…BIGGER SOUND for the TV…both of us, me and The Kid Sage are not pleased. Dad P put up those surround sound thingys…and they about blast us both off the couch or chair where we sit at night with Mom L and Dad P.  But, if it makes him happy…after all…he is the one who makes our breakfast…

ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  3. Linda you are doing so well with your blog and raising awareness of theses poor homeless fur balls. Proud of you xxx

    • oh you guys…I am so ashamed I have not been regular with you as once before…I have not done so anywhere as I have been searching deeply for what I truly want to do with the last 10-hoperfully 25 years of my life. NO…I am not ill…I just know I will be 68 in Dec and my cognitive capibility will continue to diminish!! And using social media to both have fun ( I so miss my times traveling with sammy, you Moggies and others) while also using this incredible medium called social media to try to save even one at a time…do not, please, do not ever give up on me. I am still lurking in the shadows, visiting…but not often commenting as I sort out what I will focus on for next 3 years. I have given myself a goal…if I cannot reach it by the time I am 70…then so be it. I do NOT care about monetizing my blog unless I can direct all gained to global animal rescue…such a silly thing to which to aspire as we are certainly NOT part of the 1% in the USA LOL

  4. My paws are crossed for this brave guy, I really hope he will find. a wonderful home, he deserves it so much.

  5. Poor little fella, keeping our paws crossed for Tigger that he finds his home soon!,xx Speedy

  6. What a manly purr!
Sad to hear Tigger got an infection.
But you know, antibiotics should normally not be given to prevent infections, just to deal with them when thy occur.
    From Wikipedia:
“Antibiotic resistance is a serious and growing phenomenon in contemporary medicine.
The widespread use of antibiotics both inside and outside medicine is playing a significant role in the emergence of resistant bacteria.[10]
In some countries, antibiotics are sold over the counter without a prescription, which also leads to the creation of resistant strains. Other practices contributing to resistance include antibiotic use in livestock feed to promote faster growth.[11][12] Household use of antibacterials in soaps and other products, although not clearly contributing to resistance, is also discouraged (as not being effective at infection control).[13] … ”
Hence the vet-clinic may even have had a medical reason not to give antibiotics prophylactically.
Of course, now, that he HAS an infection the use of antibiotics is indicated and the clinic has given the necessary injection and handed out the pills.

    • I researched veterinary universities and vet med sites and I respectfully disagree. Every one of them state antibiotics are called for when 1) severe gingivitis is present…it was and 2) any large extractions are expected…they were and two were major extractions requiring several stitiches. Also, senior cats, 8 years and older, must have blood test to insure kidney, liver , heart functions are able to handle general anesthesia. That was not done and Tig is 10. Also…cats have large amounts of bacteria in their mouth and add severe gingivitis the danger without antibiotics is that the bacteria gets into their bloodstream and causes kidney, liver failure and kills the cat. Wikipedia is inconsequential in the face of the veterinary universities I reviewed before I made any statement implying poor judgement on the part of this vet. Tig suffered unnecessarily. Thankfully he is doing great after proper anto I optics and pain meds were finally given.

  7. Tigger is such a handsome dude – let’s hope he captures someone’s heart while his Foster Mom is taking a break……wouldn’t it be GREAT? My paws are crossed!!!

    Hugs, Sammy

  8. Poor Tigger. How can anyone have thought for a moment of pulling out toothies without giving antibiotics. If it was a HUMAN patient, the medication would have been purr-actically automatic!!! We are furry indignant at the unnecessary suffering caused to this beautiful kitty! Tigger, we have our paws crossed for you that you will soon be finding your furever home.
Trixie, Caspurr, Shimshi and Shimona (aka Mummy)

  9. No antibiotics?!!! Whee know next to nothing about kitties but even whee know he should have been given antibiotics. Whee have our paws crossed for Tigger to find and home and get well soon this wheekend. He’s such a bootiful boy

    Nacho, Noah, Buddy & Basil

  10. Great job Mom L! Tigger you are looking so great! Hope you girls adjust to the surround sound. Gram and Gramps have it and the girls don’t like it either when they go to visit.

  11. Poor guy…what sort of MORON thinks that any being doesn’t require antibiotics after an extraction?

    That’s criminal.

  12. They didn’t think he needed antibiotics? I had actually read that most dentals don’t need ‘em but with extractions … why do shelters use such bad vets.

  14. I am Spitting with ANGER at the lack of care by the dental people! Thank Goodness you are there. I will share like mad for him.

  15. He is such a sweet boy. I hope he gets his forever home.

  16. Poor Tigger..Pickles is having an extraction next Friday..the Vet has already discussed antibiotics fluids etc etc as a normal part of such a procedure…..grrrrrr I wonder if the care is a bit haphazard due to him being a rescue cat..if so the Vet needs to find another occupation…bit harsh but it makes me so painful for the poor baby..the pics are gorgeous and bravo on the video..i hope that this weekend finds someone falling for this smooch bug…and I am also glad the sound system is a winner..after the TV debacle here we have not yet set our back up…not game hahaaha 🙂 hugs and loves Fozziemum xxxxxxx

    • we have no evidence but believe this vet clinic whom KC uses almost exclusively does indeed seem to do different level of care if it is a cat from a shelter who does not have its own home…we always ask…”If money is no object, what would you suggest”…that usually gets a different answer than if we leave as the rescue will bear the bill. We need Tigger out of this rescue into a safe and caring home…ASAP
