First up is me, or course. How many times have you heard this and no one ever knows just what that mean? I mean there are grape presses, garlic presses, mustard seed presses—heck there is probably even a NIP press! Why do ya shout out “STOP THE PRESSES!”

“Stop the presses”is from newspapering . In the “old days” (pre-Twitter and internet) if something important occurred they would stop printing and set up the new headlines. But it had to be something VERY important – Lincoln’s assassination or something. Sometimes they would print an “EXTRA” edition to get the story out before the next scheduled edition. The last time I saw this was the afternoon when JFK was assassinated. The Akron Beacon Journal had already gone to press for its afternoon edition when the news came in from Dallas, so they set up a new front page and printed another paper.
