Savannah's Paw Tracks

Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

A Yummy ‘New to Us’ Cat Treat

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!

FTC: We were not financially compensated by Chewy.com nor Orijen to write this review. We did receive, from Chewy.com,  one free bag of the product we are reviewing. All our experiences and opinions are our own. Savannah’s Paw Tracks does not review products we would not serve up to ourselves.

Here’s the scoop…I volunteered with Chewy.com to taste test a cat treat from Orijen. Now for me, this was a high risk commitment given that I don’t care for treats in general, and will only come running for my favorite one and only Party Mix.

Mom L was reluctant to make the taste test commitment knowing my peculiar particular taste buds. But, she said ‘yes’. The Orijen Original Freeze Dried Cat Treats-Chicken flavor arrived quickly but we have saved them until now to write about.

We read up on Orijen’s “whole prey’ concept to learn more about their interest in making cat food that is more ‘natural’.

“ORIJEN WHOLE PREY is the evolution of our Biologically Appropriate™ mandate; incorporating richly nourishing fresh meats, organs, cartilage and marrow in ratios that truly mirror the natural diet.”

Mom L is reading labels on all the food and toys she buys for us so she was interested in just how ‘natural’ a diet Orijen’s had for cat treats.

“Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Cat Treats feature a symphony of cage-free chicken and turkey plus wild-caught flounder from North Vancouver Island. Each of these ingredients is delivered from local sources in fresh Whole Prey ratios so you can indulge and nourish your cat at the same time. Made without cooking or preservatives, Orijen’s Biologically Appropriate treats are gently freeze-dried to lock in the life-giving goodness and flavors of fresh and regional ingredients for a reward your cat will truly love.”

Not bad, not bad at all. We were impressed. We were looking to see if these treats had any of that blueberry, cranberry stuff. Some even are using brussel sprouts in cat food and treats! MOUSES!! My Dad P won’t even touch brussel sprouts, so why the heck should we cats…right?

I still wasn’t so sure, even though these treats are clearly made of very high quality natural ingredients. So I held up my paw to go first on the taste test…

*sniff, sniff* You want to do what?...with this!

*sniff, sniff* You want me to do what!…with this?

Yep, I bet you know what my vote is going to be…4 paws down. Sorry Orijen, great treat quality, but this kitteh just doesn’t like soft treats. I need that ‘just like my kibble’ crunch and size…not too big like a lot of cat treats…I have a dainty mouth.

The Kid Sage was next up…guess what she thought??? (hover over each photo to view captions please and click on photo if you want to bigify)

For ME!! REALLY!!!

TKS gives this ‘new to us’ yummy to her tummy treat 4 paws up! This bag is now going to be stashed under our morning ‘treat pillow’. Yes, TKS loved it THAT MUCH.

Oh, some of you may not know about our morning routine in bed with retired Mom L and Dad P…click here, here, and here. Thank Ceiling Cat our humans are here and present to serve our every whim…*shhhh…don’t tell them I said that*

Chewy

Thank you Chewy.com for giving us the opportunity to taste test this truly natural Orijen cat treat.

  1. I think I’m hungry 😀 Pawkisses 🙂 ❤

  2. This is the perfect taste test, two different cats with different taste. every cat won’t like every treat but I have been reading and the Orijen treats do seem to be prticularly good.

  3. Great review! I like to crunch too but I’ve never been to known to turn down a treat.

Now we’re off to check the links you provided to see how your mom and dad spoil you!

  4. Orijen eh? We do love our freeze dried chicky boobs. Every night mom gives us each some before she reads to us…..well sometimes she forgets and I have to run around her pillow mewing at her. We never tried Orijen. It might be worth mom looking for next time we run out.

    Thanks Savannah and TKS,

    (((Shoko)))

  5. Oh these sound great! I bet my kitties would love them!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  7. Haven´t tried the Orije treats have just tried their food and I can tell you that my woffie brother likes it better than me 🙂
Would never work here to have treats under any pillow for our humans that is. I bet both me and Conrad would have raised a storm to get hold on them *mol*

    Great review 🙂

  9. You and I are so much alike. I don’t like soft treats OR freeze-dried (except that Natural Balance kibble stuff). Thanks for your honest review.

  10. Leo’s picky too, but he turns down EVERY treat.. He comes running to sniff and acts interested but when you give him some, he acts like you just tried to poison him.. The girls are interested in every and all treats though, so this looks like a good one!

  11. We’ve been hearing good things about these treats. We need to give them a try!

  13. We just posted our review on the Orijen treats today. We all loved them. How funny that you have one paw up and one paw down, but cats just have their own opinions and nothing influences them. 🙂

  14. They sound just what I need, and an enquiring Princess such as myself needs to know if they need eating quickly once open (the best excu… er… reason to finish a bag) or do they keep for a while? purrs

  15. Those are the #1 rated freeze dried treats at our house!

We all love the freeze-dried Orijen treats. We sure wish we would get them more often. We think four paws up in a two cat household isn’t a bad review! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  17. We’re a big fan of the Orijen treats… both becuase they’re tasty and becuase we like their ingredients and philosophy!

  18. OMC! This is the THIRD review of the Orijen treats I’ve read this evening and I am dying for them now! I already love them (sorry, Savvy), and will do extra treats for them.

  19. I like soft treats and I like Orijen… they make tasty things :o) I only wish my mom would give me more of that tasty snacks :o)

  20. Trixie doesn’t like soft treats either, they make her sick – but Caspurr and I (the Mighty Shimshon aka Shimshi) love treats of all kinds.

  21. Emma is not keen on soft treats too. She’s very picky when it comes to noms.
