Come Meet Queen Victoria Noire: An Adult Homeless Foster Cat

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I am now showing off my SEVENTH Adult Homeless Foster Cat. This will be the last interview in this series and I will do my final wrap up on Sunday, November 2nd.

Adult Homeless Foster Cats

My intention with this series is to draw attention to the serious backlog of adult homeless foster cats stuck, totally stuck in the foster care system.

Let me introduce you to Her Royal Highness Queen Victoria Noire…a senior, but totally elegant lady cat.

Pleased to make your acquaintance

Pleased to make your acquaintance

Savannah: *attempts to dip a tiny curtsy* “Queen Victoria Noire!!!!  I am so pleased you agreed to allow me to enter your royal quarters to have this interview. My that is a very high perch you have there.”

Queen Victoria Noire: “Good morning Lady Savannah, it is a pleasure to welcome you to my kingdom and a pleasure to be speaking with you today.  I trust you are well, as am I.  Here, here…allow be to come down and join you.”

Savannah: “It must be difficult for a ladycat of your distinction to be without your very own personal castle in which to live. I mean, one wants to do a bit of touching up in colors and styles that suit one’s taste, right?”

Queen Victoria Noire: “Absolutely.  This is my second foster home since being abandoned at the shelter. You see Savannah, I was ‘owner surrendered’…ahem…but let’s talk about that in a moment. I have been here, oh, about five months.  Prior to me coming to this wonderful home I was fostered for about four months with another lady.”

This will be difficult to talk about

This will be difficult to talk about

Savannah: “Ok, first your original ‘owner’ surrendered you to the public kill shelter, and then then you were saved from that place as was I and you lived for a few months with your first foster. And then you moved again to this foster…did I get all that right?”

Queen Victoria Noire: *sigh* Well, where do I start?  I had a loving home.  I was adopted as a little princess kitten and enjoyed my home life until the fateful day, *bows head in dismay* at seven years old, when my guardian decided to adopt a dog.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish for all animals to have a loving home, but this was not really a good idea for me.  My guardian “presented” me with this dog, and I reacted negatively. It was all so strange for me; my kingdom had changed, my status had changed and I became very upset. Because I didn’t react positively, I was surrendered to the high kill shelter and left to my fate.

The good news is someone cared about what had happened to me and they reached out to Community Concern 4 Cats (CC4C) and asked them to help me.  Thankfully they did, and they rescued me from that noisy, cold, harsh environment.

Savannah: “MOUSES! Queen Victoria Noire, how are you managing all this?”

Queen Victoria Noire: *Chortle* Well, let’s see.  First and foremost, I am not a princess kitten any more, I am a Queen.  And lots of people are looking for a prince or princess, not a Queen who can have a tendency to be ‘not amused’ about more than just a few things.

Oh, and the fact that I haven’t really been able to go to the adoption sites because I have had to spend a considerable amount of time decompressing from the multiple traumas I endured; this has not helped at all.  However, that is getting so much better and I have been to adoptions twice, and will be gracing Pet Food Express with my presence until such time as I have found my new kingdom.

Adoption events are so disturbing and challenging but I will endure to find my forever castle

Savannah: “ummm…Queen Victoria Noire, may I request that you tell me a bit about what happened to you during and after your stay at your first foster home? If it isn’t too much trouble, that is.”

Queen Victoria Noire: “Ahem, I adored my first foster home. She was so very accommodating and kind. However, not long after arriving, I was whisked off to the VET for a thorough examination to determine the state of my overall health. They discovered that I had a severe Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) to the point that my *whispers behind her paw to Savannah* ‘pee’ was almost pink. Yes, yes dearest Savannah. I had blood in my urine. It was terribly painful for me, and I never allowed anyone to know.

To make matters worse, the sweet person who was fostering me must have taken in some other cats to foster who had FLEAS!!! I was so distressed over those little demon things biting at me that I over groomed and created ‘hot spots’ all over my body. *shakes head remembering*The foster human to whom I was delivered after being treated for this stressful flea condition then agreed to allow me to create my temporary kingdom and spacious quarters here.”

Savannah: “You are the bravest senior homeless lady cat I can imagine. Any human family who discovers you and takes you to your forever castle will indeed have found a true Queen.”

Queen Victoria Noire: *blushing* Oh Savannah, you do boost one’s spirit I must say.

Savannah, you are too kind

Savannah, you are too kind

I have to say, my foster caregivers are doing everything in their power to make me feel comfortable attending adoptions, they even procured me a royal carriage so that I don’t have to suffer the indignities of being in a carrier or a cage.  They understand the needs of a Queen (they are, after all, British.  As am I) oh and there is this other teensy little issue; I am not willing to share my kingdom with other cats, or dogs.

Savannah: “Queen Victoria Noire, why don’t you tell me what your new castle and staff can expect from you as their Queen?”

Queen Victoria Noire: The first thing to expect is that, more than likely, I am not going to be a lap cat day one.  But given enough time and patience I will learn to trust and be a great companion.

They can however expect that I won’t shred curtains, or screens, or sofas.  I am also meticulous with my bathroom habits, I won’t be peeing inappropriately.  I won’t be demanding either.  I’ll survey my kingdom from on high to make sure everything is as it should be, and I will grace my new family with a dignified presence.  Although I might make out my current adoptive parents to be complete fibbers and sit on your lap day one.  After all, I am Queen Victoria Noire and I get to make the rules up as I go along.  I will love them, cuddle with them, albeit conditionally.”

I must put my paw down on certain interactions with my new humans

Savannah: “Well said! Ok, let’s talk about your hopes and dreams for your permanent castle and the family who will serve you.”

Queen Victoria Noire: “Well, *claps front paws together in excitement* it is likely that I need a home that is more like a library than a circus, which probably means no rowdy children.  When you add it all up, it really starts to limit my options don’t you think?

Savannah: *holds up paws* Whoa, I am not the lady cat to be answering that because I also simply was not able to tolerate the commotion of human young people.”

Queen Victoria Noire: “Why that is very reassuring Savannah. Oh, and my fur is silky and beautiful, but all black. Actually, I will make anyone who becomes my forever family always look very slim; black IS the most slimming of colors you know.

I adore my foster parents but I am tired of being confined to one room. I’d love a home where my new family is willing to be patient with me and understand that I might be a little fearful to start with. I’m thinking that an older couple or person would be perfect for me. I’d love to have a castle (cat tower) that affords me a view out of the windows, as I don’t like to go outside but do like a room with a view.

I must be an only pet though.  I’m traumatized from my experience with a dog, and don’t believe I will ever recover enough to be able to live with other animals, be they cats or dogs. I’m not really asking for much, just a calm place to rest my head and have a nice human staff who will love me.

Of course I do still like to play, so someone who wants to bond with me through play time would be great.

I know I ask for too much

I know I ask for too much

It sounds like a tall order, doesn’t it?  I don’t think I am asking for much, and I know there is someone out there looking for a Queen like me, I just need you to help us find each other Savannah, so anything you can do would be wonderful

Savannah: “My Queen, it is my pleasure to work hard to assist you in finding that perfect forever castle where you can rest your head next to your human (s) and find peace and contentment. Let’s get to work!”

Please, Ceiling Cat, help me find my forever castle. I am not young anymore but still so much love to give

Please take a moment to enjoy watching my guest interact with her current foster human.

I Am An Adult Homeless Foster Cat: Heart Throb Senior

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I am now showing off my FIFTH Adult Homeless Foster Cat.

Adult Homeless Foster Cats

My intention with this series is to draw attention to the serious backlog of adult homeless foster cats stuck, totally stuck in the foster care system.

Let me introduce you to my pal, NICKY…a senior, but totally hot bachelor, searching for his forever family.

Am I on camera??

Am I on camera??

Nicky: “Hey there. You must be Savannah…come on in.”

Savannah: *looks over shoulder, peeks around corner…glances up* “Oh you must be Nicky!

Nicky: “You are quick Savannah…heh…heh…come on up and join me.”

I'm up here!!

I’m up here!!

Savannah: “ummm…Nicky, I don’t ‘do’ heights very well and I truly dislike having all four paws off the floor at the same time, na’mean?”

Nicky: “Oh come on Savannah. You’re a cat and certainly younger than me and look at me up here on top of the kitchen cupboards”

Savannah: *letting out a huge sigh…steps back and leaps to counter, then to cupboard* “Oh my, that was totally scary. Nicky would you mind moving your tail just a bit so I can get away from the edge?”

Nicky: “Of course.”

This is just not right! Too high!

This is just not right! Too high!

Savannah: “That’s lots better. Now, first thanks for agreeing to meet with me. I am trying hard to help as many adult homeless foster cats as I can get their hopes and dreams heard. So Nicky, I already know this is not your real home, just a stopping off point until your real family can find you. But how did you come here in the first place?”

Nicky: “Now that is a long story Savannah. And some of it I don’t really remember. I’ll try to make it short.

Let’s see…*counting on claws* I am about 11-12 years old and I have been with this foster lady since 2005. I was just a young’n when she first took me into her care. You see I was part of a family of cats abandoned at the Port Of Oakland. We were all living in an old boat repair building. All the other kittens were adopted out but not me.

Eventually the foster lady moved our whole colony to this location and I have been here ever since. I see other cats get adopted, but it just never seems to be my turn. Now I am a senior dude and likely no one is ever gonna want me now. But, I do know that Community Concern 4 Cats, my rescue organization, will make sure I am well cared for UNTIL my forever family finds me.

Am I too old?

Am I too old?

Savannah: “Nicky, come on and buck up your spirits. I am sure we can help you and your forever family find one another.”

Nicky: “I try to be positive Savannah. That’s why I decided to let the foster lady know I was ready, willing and able to get adopted. You see I used to hang around mostly outside. We are safe here and can come and go as we please…in and out. But I decided I wanted that forever home others got to have so I moved myself right inside with my foster lady. Now she can see how warm, cuddly and fun I am. I like to spend as much time as I can in her lap.”

Savannah: “Yeowzers Nicky, smart move on your part!”

Nicky: “I thought I had best take matters into my own paw so to speak. I sleep on the bed next to her and purr up a storm. As you can see, where we are hanging out right now is a favorite spot for me. I like being up here on top of the cupboards so I can keep an eye on what’s happening.

I like the others cats that live here, but I prefer to keep some distance if I can. Plus I have the added advantage of knowing exactly when the foster lady becomes the food lady and starts serving up the chow!”

Savannah: “MOL! I can tell you are getting your exercise and look at your gorgeous brown tabby furs; all shiny. You are a very healthy mancat at 11-12 years of age Nicky.”

Nicky: *blushing* “Oh gosh Savannah, a mancat has to keep up his good looks and slender body”.

Do I look healthy and fit?

Do I look healthy and fit?

Savannah: “Can you describe for my readers what hopes and dreams you have when you think of having your own forever home.”

Nicky: *chuckles* “Well, as you can see I certainly hope to find a very tall cat tree just for me! And I love my wet food so having that for all meals would be so wonderful. I don’t mind some treats now and then too.

I would really enjoy having my human(s) give me a nice lap to nap on and I don’t mind if they have one or two other adult cats. But you know, I don’t think I will be very comfortable with young humans, you know the kind, small and very active!

Oh yes, I can’t forget. I simply MUST have a window or two with a view! I so enjoy watching the outdoors and window whiffies are a must as well.

I hope they won’t mind that I like to be the greeter whenever new people come to visit. I make sure to give them head bumps and walk them to their seats.” (be sure to hover over each photo to view captions…you will miss out if you don’t!)

Savannah: “Nicky, what would you say that makes you special; a cat that humans won’t forget?”

Nicky: “The foster lady says ‘Nicky’s eyes are striking; he is a deep thinker and his eyes are truly the windows to his soul‘…she sees my REAL SELF”.

I know I am a senior cat but I still have many good healthy years to give to humans. I would love on them and keep them warm and make sure they always know they are mine. Do you think I stand a chance Savannah? Maybe I should give up ever getting my very own forever home.”

Savannah: “Absolutely you are not too old and don’t ever say never and never give up. Just look at the video your foster lady made just for you.”

Nicky: *reaches to pat Savannah’s shoulder* “Thanks for helping this old guy out Savannah. You are a real pal”.

Savannah: “And you Mr. Nicky are not an ‘old guy’, you are a mature mancat and very handsome indeed. Thanks lots for letting me hang out up here with you.”

I Am An Adult Homeless Foster Cat: Help Me ROAR!!

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I am now showing off my THIRD Adult Homeless Foster Cat.

Adult Homeless Foster Cats

My intention with this series is to draw attention to the serious backlog of adult homeless foster cats stuck, totally stuck in the foster care system.

Let me introduce you to my pal, IRISH…he is two years old…a total mancat bachelor searching for his forever family.

Oh hello all...I am a bit nervous...

Oh hello all…I am a bit nervous…

Savannah: “Hello Irish. Thanks for responding to my text message so fast. I really wanted to get this interview and photo shoot with you wrapped up for my Friday blog post. You’re a real pal for taking the time.”

Irish: *waves paw to Savannah* Hey Savannah, no problem. Actually time is what I have a lot of these days. I just hang out here in the free roaming cat room and try to not bug anybody else. ”

Savannah: “I know this isn’t your ‘real’ home; just a stopping off place. But something must have happened to you Irish to cause you to end up here. You are certainly in great health from the looks of you and just two years old. So what’s the scoop? ”

Oh my, I wish I knew

Oh my, I wish I knew

Irish: *shuffles paws uncomfortably* This is a bit of a hard story to share Savannah. You see, I was what humans call a ‘neighborhood’ cat. I was living on the streets in a neighborhood for as long as I can remember. I think I was abandoned by humans when I was about 9-12 months old. No idea why, but I clearly wasn’t feral. Some of the humans fed me now and then. Finally one started to feed me more regularly and I hung out near that house.”

Savannah: “Irish, you must have been so lonely.”

Oh Savannah, you have no idea how lonely I was for human touch

Oh Savannah, you have no idea how lonely I was for human touch

Irish: “I guess so Savannah, but at that time I didn’t even know what loneliness was. I just knew I needed water, food and a warm dry place to sleep. Anyway, as I was saying, this one human started to feed me regularly and she noticed I was really going downhill. My furs were getting dirty, I was losing weight and I started to kind of totter along as I walked.

This human also noticed that the middle of my tail was all chewed up, raw and ugly. So they contacted this rescue, Community Concern 4 Cats  (CC4C) to ask for help for me. A nice lady came to their home and she could pick me up easily and took me straight away to a VET.

Savannah: “Oh my cat! Irish, didn’t your tail hurt? You must have been in so much pain!!”

Irish: “I most certainly was, and when I went to the VET the first time, he said my tail must be amputated.”

Savannah *GASP!* “You must be kidding?! *looks back at her tail with concern* I can’t imagine losing my tail!”

Irish: “Neither could I, and they also discovered I wasn’t neutered either. As if all that wasn’t enough, the VET looked at my eyes, ears and gums and could see I was very jaundiced so he did some blood work and took an xray. It didn’t come back with good news. My liver and kidney functions were all down. And they could see that my right hind leg had been broken, healed wrongly on its own but I don’t have a limp thankfully. Then, this VET told the rescue lady I must be euthanized.

I was stunned to hear I must lose my life

I was stunned to hear I must lose my life

Savannah: “Aiieeee!! Oh Cat!! Irish, no, no…I know how it feels to have humans say you must be put to sleep; ended! I am so very sorry this happened. But you are right here in front of me, so what happened?”

Irish: “Well this rescue lady doesn’t give up that easy or fast. She thanked the VET and said she would take me home with some antibiotics and other meds for my tail and let him know how I was doing.

She called this Feline Specialist VET who is retired but gives her time and skill free to CC4C. This lady VET said ‘He is just dehydrated, give him fluids and lots and lots of food; keep him on antibiotics to clear up the infection on his tail. She said it could be that tail problem that caused the jaundice.”

I rebounded enough that they could finally safely amputate my tail. And as you can see, it kind’a looks like a bunny rabbit tail…*sits up so Savannah can see his tail.*”

See my 'bunny rabbit' tail? Isn't it cute?

See my ‘bunny rabbit’ tail? Isn’t it cute?

Savannah: You’re right Irish; you DO have a bunny tail!! “. Tell me something about yourself Irish. How would you describe your personality to your new forever family?”

Irish: *hmmm…tapping claw on tile floor* “I guess first I want to say how much I love to play. I don’t get much chance here in the cat room to play interactively with a human. And I want my forever family to know I am very affectionate and easy to get along with; I am also pretty laid back with others cats too.

Savannah: “Tell me what makes you special?”

Irish: “You mean besides my bunny tail and mancatly good looks! *Irish looks surprised then winks at Savannah* Well, given all I have been through, I am very trusting of humans and believe that they will protect me and take care of me.”

*licks lips* Let me think a minute

*licks lips* Let me think a minute

As for my hopes and dreams about what I want in my forever home…lots of interaction with my humans; lots of interactive play, after all I have playtime to catch up on! I don’t particularly think I will want to have very young children trying to pull my bunny tail and dogs kind of scare me; so no dogs preferred.”

It seems like I am asking for the moon Savannah.”

Savannah: Absolutely NOT! You are barely asking for the basics all indoor cats need Irish. You forever family is out there right now searching for you. I hope I can get enough of my pals to SHARE and RETWEET you all over social media to shine a beacon of positive white energy on you so your forever family can find you fast!

Irish: “As you say Savannah, paw pats. I so hope you are right.”

I dream of a forever home that keeps me safe and love me as I will love them

I dream of a forever home to keep me safe & love me as I will love them

Here is a great video of Irish showing off his loving nature…short video I promise!

PLEASE SHARE SHARE SHARE Irish on any and all social media networks with which you interact. Just putting his name out in the universe with positive energy can help Irish get close to his forever family.
