Savannah's Paw Tracks

Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

Hiya! Savannah Here…My Recovery Continues

Hey, hey ,hey…so here’s how I roll on my recovery…reaaalllll sllllooooowww! Meowsies!

Ya can check out my butt showing in the photo…yeah, yeah, that’s me..thank goodness ya can’t tell how big my butt was at the time Mom took the photo…whew!

Seriously tho’, the old tortoise had nothing on me when it comes to being CAUTIOUS!!!  Guess that’s why they call it “recovery”, huh?!

I still have this same hiding place, it’s behind the chair in our bedroom, with an afghan thrown over the back so it hangs almost to the floor…and my scratch post is about 8 inches from the chair back…so there is this sort’a cave like place I can hang and watch Dad and Mom in the bedroom.

But…yep,, here come the pun…the Butt…gives me away!  At least I don’t hide under the bed much anymore…welllllll….except for earlier this month when I had this bladder infection…owsey yowsey!  that was a mess and hurt soooo bad!  more on that later.

So ya know I was forever adopted in early January!!! HOORAY!!!

Then we started gettin’ real serious about a recovery plan…first the fitness rcovery…

so…I sort’a developed this poor relationship with food at Kitty Corner…I became a night grazer…yeah, totally lame, huh?  But, I was so scared all day with the other cats, and the volunteers were around lots (reallly nice folks) so I hid all day, then I was STARVING at night…so I snuck out and chowed all night practically…and holy smokes did I need to pee!  I held almost all day…crossed my legs real tight…whew!

Back to the relationship with food…so every one of my former roomies at Kitty Corner was so polite…and so were the volunteers…no one said a word to me about my browing big butt!! Huuummmmiiliatttinnnggg!  But…Mom and Dad finally told me…so here’s how I got into my fitness recovery.

1. No food at night.  I now have eating times…Dad measures it…and I have ‘ta come out at day, be with them to eat…so goooddd for me to do this

2. I never played at Kitty Corner (remember I was always hiding) so Mom took up the exercise challenge…I got toys and guess what??!! Go on…guess???? YES I LOVED THEM!!!

who knew playing would be so soothing…and man do I ever work up a sweat…well ya know what I mean…I breathe hard…I chase the cat dancer toy like a crazy woman!  whoo hoo!  And then there is this laser light thingy…too fun!  Oh, yeah…and we live in a two story house…with wood floors mostly…so I do laps up and down the stairs…mostly at night (sooorrryyy Mom and Dad!  Rolling Eyes

So fitness recovery is about eating time and amounts and its about doing aerobics, core strengthening (lots of ab work!), upper body building, and so on.  I do most of the exercise during play time…but the aerobics I can do on my own, like I just said..the night running stuff. Mom is getting some video together..but here is some of the upper body work out..ya know…this takes a lot of core strengthening to sit up and whack at this feathery thingy!

Okayyyy….so that was my first try at the feather toy…I am wayyyy better now…and I have lots more challenging toys….so watch for the new videos!

That’s kind’a it for tonight…I have’ta go find my din-dins.  Probably by the water fountain and grass garden…I know, I know…totally spoiled…and LOVING  every minute!!

That’s my girl, Savannah. Slowly we’re getting into a routine – eat at certain times, play at others (although I don’t really mind hearing you running up and down the ahllways at night), and sleep in between (with occasional loves from Mom and me). Just keep it up. You’re getting more and more like a regular cat every day. Love – Dad
