It’s SNIP Time Again!! #TNRWORKS

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Lots of my readers are always excited to see our quarterly SNIP Clinic (spay, neuter impact program). Mom L has been volunteering at SNIP for almost two years and Dad P has been doing this close to one year.

Mom L always works the admission so they can note each entering cat’s coat color, length of coat and any medical concerns easily visible like a few who enter with trap butting nose injuries. They also note if the trapped cat has any food or empty food dishes in their trap. Those always go last to S/N just in case they ate on that morning.

Dad P works transport. It is a very tough job, as those cats in traps weigh a lot! He takes them from admissions to the sedation station at first. Then later on in the morning he starts taking them from surgery to the recovery room, where Mom L is then waiting to help care for them.

Here are a few of the totally awesome and gorgeous cats that come through admissions.

This is an ALL VOLUNTEER clinic, including the Vets and Vet Techs. And SNIP has its very own caterers!! Seriously, a few people deliver the most amazing AM and lunch foods, always gluten free, vegan choices!! What  delight! And those deviled eggs are Mom L’s fave!

TKS and I are so proud of Mom L and Dad P and all the others who volunteer on this special day, four times a year in Contra Costa County. Thank you to SNIP!!

PAW PATS, SAVANNAH—I will be dark on Wednesday, August 3. My apologies

What Mom L? Ahhhh—no, I don’t think I am exaggerating, not one teeny tiny kitty toes worth! (MOUSES!! I let a clue slip out!). Ahem—Mom L I have this all under control, don’t fret. This is my blog after all, right?

Let’s get started with a song, shall we?? (hope Mr Tom Jones excuses my liberties with his fantabulous lyrics from his time enduring song “What’s New Pussycat?”)

What’s new, pussycat?
Whoaaaah,Whoaaaah
What’s new, pussycat?

And just how many kitty kittens do you see??? Tell me in comments.

Our very loving and special partners in helping Mom L and Dad P and me and TKS keep our home tidy have had the opportunity to take part in a rescue mission. The mom cat, Muñeca, aka Muñerz, has been best buddy to their neutered male cat for many months. Muñeca is about one year old. Unfortunately, there are many un-neutered male cats in their semi-mobile home park and Muñeca became pregnant. She delivered her kittens under their car in their carport.

The humans contacted Mom L quickly and Mom L and I went into “rescue mode”. We called our special friend Ms Lisa, with HALO (homeless animal lifeline organization), and she came through! The human guardians now have a large cage to entice Muñeca into with her kittens to keep her and them safe. This will also start the important socialization process for the kittens. They will be socialized so they can be adopted quickly into loving homes.

As for Muñeca, she has a special Happy Tails Ending. She will be spayed, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and returned to the loving care of our house keeping partners, the wonderful family of Mom Norma, and daughters Izela, Elena and Karen.

Now tell me in comments, how many kitty kitten toes will need smooching???

Feline Investigation: Approving Feral Rescue

HIYA!  SAVANNAH HERE!!!

You all know I have recently been suspicious of Mom L’s  recent activity…outside my castle. Well I now have my first inclination as to what she may be up to…but I still suspect…as an expert member of the Feline Bureau of Investigation…that there is still more to her story.

Savvy suspects Mom L

Of course, my long time readers will immediately realize that Mom L has been to yet another SNIP Clinic (Spay, Neuter Impact Program)…not that the first photos is Mom L’s…*proud ears*.

This clinic is done quarterly at our county public shelter, closed on Sundays, but they give SNIP access to the surgery and all the space needed to offer rescues and the public the opportunity to bring in community cats (aka ferals), in traps, for low cost spay and neuter. The cost is $15 USD and includes spay, neuter and rabies vaccination and other vaccines as well as flea treatment and any simple dental work and/or wound treatment and even sometimes, a quick mani/pedi!!

Early morning admission is a very busy place…

One side is for TNR and RTF rescue; the other for the public

One side is for TNR and RTF rescue; the other for the public

That’s my first rescue human, in the blue vest, Ms Tammy…she pulled me before being killed and fostered me until I could go to a safe no kill facility, Kitty Corner.

Ms Tammy and Mom L worked with Ms Eileen to do admission for the public community cat intakes.  On Sunday, January 31, SNIP spayed and neutered and treated about 103 community cats!!!

Some of the patients were not purrleased with their day…but I know that they will no longer be able to reproduce and that they will be returned to communities where they have long been fed well and cared for. (hover over photos to view captions)

So many of the patients are not completely feral. They live in humans’ back yards, are cared for and just need to be spayed, neutered and vaccinated for rabies and other common cat diseases.

This is the recovery room. It is kept very quiet and respectful of the kitties and all that they have gone through to come to this clinic for spay and neuter.

Mom L totally luvluvluvs doing this special clinic, held 4 times a year. And this best part about this clinic…DAD P JOINED MOM L…

Mom L Dad P

And last but not least by far…Mom L greeted her Return To Field pal Ms Julie. Ms Julie is the founder of Outcast Cat Help which is the only transfer partner at this time with Contra Costa Animal Services. Mom L just completed her training to become a Feline Express Driver for this program…lots more to come about that!

I am working on a really great blog post for Return to Field and Mom L’s first experience with Ms Julie…stay tuned!!
