Selfie Retrospective: Introduction to a six part series

HIYA!!  SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I asked Mom L to dig around and find a sort of ‘selfie’ from when I first arrived here, in my forever castle. I thought it would be a great set up for the start of my once a month PAW IT FORWARD project starting on Monday, September 28th.

Me…on day 3 of being ‘fostered’…barely sitting on Mom’s feet

Yup, being a ‘foster’ cat still means no ‘home’. Yeah, yeah…we all hope the fostership will fail…but you never know. Thankfully, mine did, and here I am…the Queen of my very own castle and even a blog, a Face Book Fan Page, a Twitter ID and more.

But…you all knew there was gonna be a ‘but’, right?…there are so many more cats that go into ‘foster’ and never leave, no matter how hard they wish, dream and pray for a real forever castle. Therefore, I am starting a once a month feature blog post tomorrow, Monday, September 28th, to bring to my readers the hopes and dreams of  HOMELESS FOSTER CATS currently in foster with Community Concern 4 Cats. This post is my INTRODUCTION to this SIX  part series, which will conclude in January 2016.

My regular readers, at least those who have stuck with me even though my typist is lousy at commenting… will recognize this rescue that tries very hard to TNR as many cats in my county as they can AND they try to take as many of the adult cats (meaning over the age of 6 months) into foster hoping to socialize them to become adoptable. I often report on Mom L volunteering in their weekly cat clinic, held in the kitchen of the organization’s President, Ms Gemma…(click here; click here).

My first post was about two tiny bottle kittens…

And my most recent was about the CC4C clinic in Ms Gemma’s kitchen with Doc Josie…helping Ozzie…

It took no paw struggle to get CC4C to be willing to tell the real deal about all rescues who work with the neighborhood free roaming cat population across this country…meaning the US of A. So many of these precious cats are adults, and even though some are very willing to be adopted and even pray to Ceiling Cat that they will have their very own forever castle at last…alas…when it comes to human adoption events, such as those at local pet food stores etc., humans most likely gravitate to the youngsters…not realizing that they have likely passed over the very cat they have always longed for just because that cat is an adult and/or black.

Please join me tomorrow to hear Coco and Chanel, two sisters, 20 months old, who are Homeless Foster Cats, share their story and their hopes and dreams of their Forever Homes. Introduction: We Are Adult Homeless Foster Cats…Revealing Hopes and Dreams with Savannah

I am joining my pals, from The Cat On My Head for their Sunday Selfie Blog Hop…just click on the badge below to jump over to find lots of other fabulous selfies from cats, woofies, and who knows what!!

Happy Tails Endings Are the Best!

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

You are for sure going to totally enjoy a couple of happy tail ending rescue stories I have to share with you today.

Are you ready to do some Happy Dancing??

Are you ready to do some Happy Dancing??

My former rescue shelter Kitty Corner recently sent out some Happy Tails Ending updates that I know you will want to hear about. This is what Miss Chrissy, the Adoption Manager for Kitty Corner told us:

“There were  two brothers who’d been bottle fed by a woman and lived in a topsoil yard for the first year of their life.  When customers complained about the “presents” Hank & Rocky would leave in their topsoil purchases (world’s biggest litter boxes), they were trapped and brought to Animal Services.  Each were adopted and both returned; one for having bitten and one for scratching (they adopted one to a 90-year-old woman who’d poke at the cat with her cane when he hid under the bed!) .Miss Sue, a volunteer at the county Animal Services hoped they could remain together.  She brought each over to Kitty Corner after their quarantine periods were done.

They didn’t hang out here together at all oddly, especially given their Happy Tails Ending.  A couple applied to adopt them both before an adoption event, and since this was their first cat, they ended up just deciding to adopt Rocky at the event. But they fell so in love with him and his awesome disposition that two months later, when they felt they could easily manage a second cat, they came back and adopted Hank. And now the two brothers are reunited and couldn’t be happier together.  Love times a million!”

The boys new guardians sent this fun update to Miss Chrissy:

Hope you are doing well! Thompson and I just wanted to give you an update on the boys adjustment with living together. Chrissy, you have no idea. Saying they are best friends is an understatement. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER! I swear I will come home, and they are always snuggled up next to each other! I attached a couple of photos of them snuggled up together! At night when Thompson and I go to sleep, they are running wild all over the house playing with each other. Sometimes, we wake up, and all we hear is sprinting back and forth from them playing together with their toys.”

Next we had another update from Miss Chrissy about a sweet Moma kitty who Mom L actually was able to have a meet and greet with. She was barely a year old and pregnant, with SEVEN kittens! The people with whom she lived owner surrendered her and the kittens to the County Animal Shelter. Miss Chrissy was thrilled to scoop them all up and bring them to Kitty Corner.

All the kittens were adopted, but Snow White (the shelter named her that as she had 7 kittens MOL). Finally her day did come and her new guardians sent this update and photos of Sansa aka Snow White.

Sansa at home at last

This is from Snow White’s mom, who’s renamed her Sansa.  “She’s doing great and is really warming up to their German Shepherd teenage dog, who’s super cat-savvy.”  Miss Chrissy has spoken with her a lot since adoption and she’s very happy with Snow White aka Sansa.

Isn’t she just the most gorgeous calico/tortie combo!

Hope you now have a great big smile on your faces and have started to do your Happy Dance. RESCUES ROCK!!!

Many more Happy Tails Endings are needed so please be sure to always SHARE SHARE SHARE when someone posts about a cat or dog in need of a home…let’s all do more Paw It Forward!

Rescue Cats Come in All Sizes

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

It has been a long time…like NINE whole months…since Mom L was able to work the weekly cat clinic for Community Concern 4 Cats (CC4C). Some of you may recall Mom L had a complete knee replacement in early December and then come May 18 we were struck by a lightning bolt from our property owner telling us to move.  Long story short…we are finally in a new rental home and settling in rather well.

Yep! This now my HRH Savannah Castle

Yep! This now my “Savannah Castle”.

The Kid Sage was not at all shy about settling in no matter what changes the humans made…that chair with the custom made cat bed was there for like 12 seconds…

This is MY PLACE...just so you know HRH Savannah!

This MY PLACE…just so you know HRH Savannah!

That’s it for the ‘background’ story. Mom L and her best buddy Doc Josie finally were able to work together again with Ms Gemma from CC4C this past week and what a thrill Mom L had helping all the rescue cats.

There were about 10 kittens, rescued from feral situations, and all will be adopted out over time…(REMEMBER: hover over each photo to view captions)

Of course, what that kitten was having done with his hind leg was drawing blood to test for feline immune issues. Doc Josie draws the blood from kittens from inside their hing leg where there is a vein that is available. The adults have their blood drawn from the jugular vein…which is easier given their age. Mom L usually looks away…she is very squeamish…

This precious 15 year old female cat was abandoned by her guardians because they moved to Hawaii and taking her with them was difficult. So they called CC4C asking them to find her a new home. As she is likely now hyperthyroid, it is unlikely that this sweet Senior Female Cat will ever find a new home. She was always an only cat and adored all the attention. She simply is not able at her age to adjust to her foster Mom’s other cat…and so what will be her fate? One little pill, twice a day…and living as a loving only cat…will anyone ever step up to take her?

Likely not…there are so many available healthy kittens…who will want her?

If you are one of my followers, please spread the word that a 15 year old lovely lady is in desperate need of a forever home. And yes, she will need two pills a day…AM and PM…and she is easy to medicate. How can anyone abandon a cat, or any companion animal, who has given them 15+ years of their life and love…*shakes head*…I am so very thankful I have my permanent home…but am dismayed that this sweet lady does not.

And so, such is the reality of working with all ages of animal rescue…whether feline or canine…

Mom L and I are so pleased we can again report on our efforts with free roaming feline rescue efforts.
