New Foster Mom Saves Six Kittens

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I have such an exciting story to share with you about six kittens our Project Delta View Cats (PDVC) group helped through targeted TNR (trap, neuter, return) in our city. If you live anywhere there is a “kitten season” in the USA you know that by June time most public shelters are about full up with kittens, in shelter and in foster care.

That happened with two litters one resident had, Miss Jessica, in our PDVC project area in Pittsburg, CA. We were able to get one set of kittens into the municipal shelter but by the time we could catch the mom cat and other kittens from two other litters, the shelter was full. Shelter staff advised we have the resident “foster in place and socialize” and try to get them into the shelter in the Fall/Winter.

That is exactly what Miss Jessica did!! She cared for two gray kittens, and five black and black and white kittens from two mom cats for SEVEN MONTHS!! Miss Jessica has never fostered before and she works full time. But, she did one heck of a great job with these kittens. One of the black and whites was adopted by her friend, but the other six stayed with her, inside and well loved and well fed!

The first two Mom L took to the shelter right after Christmas, one gray and one white with black, have been pulled by a wonderful rescue for their Kitty Corner, Contra Costa Humane Society (CCHS).

The white with black started to chill’ax faster, but the gray kitty turned out to be a lap cat!

You can see that both became very comfy and that is why CCHS pulled them and they are on their way to forever homes!

The second pair Mom L toke to the shelter on Jan. 2nd.

Another gray kitty, with striking amber eyes and a tuxedo. They are still shy but coming around.

The last two were taken in Jan 8 and are still very scared as they were the least socialized of the six. But once the first four were gone, these two started to interact with foster Miss Jessica more easily.

Here are their intake photos at the shelter. Both are female, one tuxedo and one all black.

I will keep you posted on the kitties if I can. Targeted TNR works! And people do care and people really ARE THE SOLUTION!!

What do you think about that notion?

Everyday Brings New Excitement

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I have to say that having this Kit Katie hanging around sure does keep everyone on their toes. She is non-stop checking out every little corner of my castle. And she has to talk all the time she is doing it. How the heck can a senior cat get her napping done.

Well as you can see, I am not having anything to do with the kid’s explorations. As long as I have my end of the couch and Mom L is at the other end where she can reach over and pet me now and then, I don’t care

I do have to say that Kit Katie has really been living on the edge the last few days. You remember that photo from my last Friday Memes where TKS is staring from her tower in total disbelief at what she is seeing happening before her eyes?

I cannot believe what Kit Katie is doing!!!!

This is what TKS was watching. She was looking at me, actually enjoying some treats within like eighteen inches of Kit Katie. Yup, even I surprised myself doin’ it the first time. Heck, my throat was so hoarse from hissing at Kit Katie (KK) when she hopped up on my our bed, I needed those treats just to clear my head!!

Now we do this almost every morning. I am actually staying on the bed while KK roams all over it. She has discovered Mom L’s iPad and thinks those mouses are pretty fun. (hover over photo to view caption)

She has also discovered that she can climb from our bedroom scratch post to the tippy top of Mom L’s jewelry chest to get a better look at the art hanging on the wall.

And TKS has an even more frightening experience as she watched from her tower at this morning’s action with KK and me on our bed.

No!! Oh no!! This is gonna be really really bad!!!

You see, KK was all rolling around on the bed and snuggled up against Mom L’s leg. Then she did the awful horrible. She stretched as far as she could and she let her paw touch my furs!!! TKS was right to be lookin’ so shocked!

I bet I can reach Savvy from here…

Well I can tell you that I gave her my loudest, meanest snarl and yowl of outrage and I raised my paw to give her a whack! Luck for KK she moved fast and zipped off the edge of the bed. The nerve!!!

So I am ready for Kit Katie to find her own castle. I sure do hope my pals will grab her badge at this end of this blog post and share her all over your social media. Anyone interested can contact Contra Costa Humane Society in Pleasant Hill, CA at 925-279-2247. Kit Katie lives with me, but CCHS has her in their re-homing program so they contact Mom L if there is an inquiry for Kit Katie.

PeeEss…thought you might like to see some new photos of the River View Park cats getting their chow on a very rainy day. Didn’t stop them!

And here is KK’s badge.

Friday Memes and Happy Tails Endings

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

My Friday memes will begin my happy tails ending to a story you have all been following.

A question Mom L and Dad P hoped had “yes” for the answer, as did Katie. Neither of our foster kittens wanted to be without the other. A dilemma when you take foster kittens to an adoption site that doesn’t pay attention to how bonded some pairs are. But Mom L and Dad P were able to get space for both girls at my former shelter home, Contra Costa Humane Society’s Kitty Corner!

And that was certainly NOT Katie’s first thoughts when Mom L and Dad P dropped them off at Kitty Corner. Katie didn’t want to leave her carrier so they left it there for a whole day so she could use it as her safety place.

You can see that Lilly kept returning to Katie’s carrier to make sure Katie was ok. And Lilly kept look out for any potential intruders. But after a few days, Lilly was out and about making new friends.

But precious shy Katie found herself a hidey spot, up high so she could keep her eyes on whatever was going on down below and it was also near the often open door with a screen so she could smell the fresh air. Lilly again checked on her throughout each day and often snuggled in with Katie for her naps.

When Dad P visited he found Katie in her hidey spot and she was grateful for his soft warm touch.

The staff told us that Katie was seen coming out at night to eat some dry food and use the litter box. She would even explore Kitty Corner a bit as well. But as soon as the first staff person opened the door—zip! She was back up in her hidey spot for the day.

The kitties all get some wet food once a day at Kitty Corner and as you can see, Lilly liked to eat her dish on the floor and then dash up to join Katie for her serving!! But, Katie started to eat some wet food when Lilly joined her. Katie is a social eater and prefers to have Lilly share her bowl of food. Katie and Lilly were at Kitty Corner for just two weeks before a very special family arrived, looking for Katie. They saw Katie on Contra Costa Humane Society’s website and the Dad especially fell for her and wanted to meet her. They knew that they could ONLY be adopted together so they were curious to meet Lilly too.

This family has two elementary aged children, both of whom kept their voices calm and quiet while visiting Kitty Corner. Big plus for Katie and Lilly!!! The parents also made sure their two children stroked Lilly and Katie softly from head slowly down to tail.

When the father saw Katie it was love at first sight. He stood next to her and gave her lots of pets. When he stopped, Katie reached her neck out so he could get to her head easier!! She invited him for more pets!!

The Mom and children were loving playing with rambunctious Lilly. After talking for some time with the adoption counselors where they learned of the medical challenges both Lilly and Katie faced and that Katie has juvenile gingivitis, they asked to fill out the adoption application! YES!!

Katie and Lilly have been adopted TOGETHER!!!

Katie above and Lilly below.

Mom L and Dad P both had leaky eyes they were so grateful that Katie and Lilly had found such a truly special family to call their very own. And they do get to live happily ever after together!!

I can’t thank all of you who shared our appeal for help with the unexpected cost of Katie and Lilly’s medical care. Your willingness to help us spread the word and in some cases even donate, mean tons to me and Mom L and Dad P.

Hope you enjoyed my memes and news today.
