Beware the iPhone Light

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I have something kind of fun and also scary to share today. First, I am sure everybody already knows about the things to beware if they use the light iPhones offer for flash and for videos, but Mom L was clearly not a recipient of that email.

The fun part is getting to watch me in action using my our newest cat tower, It really and truly is just my size. I don’t go up high and the top of this one is right at the windowsill level. Heck, I haven’t even climbed up to the top yet!

But I totally have a blast jumping into the tunnel part and then playing with anything that comes near where my paws and claws are!

I'm waiting patiently...

I’m waiting patiently…

You can see that I like to appear as though I am not interested in whatever Mom L is bringing over. But then I get a bit curious and so have to take a better peek.

Eyes openning wider for a better assessment of play potential

Finally, I get a good full on look at whatever she is about to use to entice me to play.  Notice my whonky eye color? Yeah, we tried to photo edit them to make them look better, but we are pretty poor at that kind of photo editing. Just notice the size of my pupils in this next photo. We were doing this photo shoot in a darkened living room at night, so the flashy thing was in use.

What'cha have there Mom L? Are we going to play?

What’cha have there Mom L? Are we going to play?

And play we did. I was a crazepants cat for sure! I can even whip around inside the tunnel to get the feather if it shows up behind me…I am very fast. But, Mom L couldn’t get a good video because it was to dark in the living room. So she used the iPhone light for this video.

Mom L noticed after just a few seconds that I stopped playing and just sat really still.

I don't feel very well

I don’t feel very well

Then she noticed I retreated inside the tunnel and would not come out. So she put the peacock feather up to my face and I could not see it! I was blind!!!

She yelled for Dad P, he came running. Mom L is a basket case when we cats are hurt and she was already holding back sobs trying not to frighten me. Dad P got close to me and also saw that I was bobbing my head, and not able to see. When he or Mom held their fingers close to me I could smell them, but I didn’t know what that was so I recoiled back into the safety of the dark tunnel.

Dad checked my pupils and he could almost see NO color in my eyes. Mom L called our friend, my retired cat DVM, before grabbing me to rush to emergency. Mom L just knew she had blinded me, her precious Savannah.

By the time Mom L got Dr Josie, I was starting to look around a bit as though I could see some things. While they talked, I finally jumped down from the tower and walked slowly toward the kitchen. I was fine after that.

Dr. Josie said my pupils were already dilated a lot to be able to see in the darkened living room. And the iPhone light, while NOT a laser, it is terrifically bright…too bright for my already dilated pupils and when I looked toward the peacock feather, I looked straight into that blazing light and it temporarily blinded me.

I am sure most of you already knew to be careful with use of an iPhone light around an animal at night or in a darkened room. But, Mom L did not. I am just fine, we even played a lot today, Sunday, in my new tower.

But Mom L won’t ever forget! So beware of the iPhone light when you want to video your animals in a darkened room…just sayin’…

Adult Cats Making Change: Tail Whiffies Matter!

J Lo 4

 Adopt J Lo

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Who knew how a change in a relationship would be positively affected with a whiff of another cat’s tail???

Seriously? You think I want to snuffle her tail?

Seriously? You think I want to snuffle her tail?

No way…I am definitely NOT going to even try to get a whiff of Her Royal Highness Princess Savannah…well, maybe not when she can know about it

Nope, not ever never gonna 'whiff' her tail...might be painful

Nope, not ever never gonna ‘whiff’ her tail…might be painful

So the first part of this ‘breakthrough’ goes like this…

Mom L opened the front door, leaving the screen door  latched.  I, Savannah, was so excited I zipped over to check out all those fresh, fragrant outdoor whiffies….ahhhhhhhh….bliss….

Unknown to me….The Kid Sage…slipped in right behind me…and took total advantage of my innocent rapture in the fresh out of doors smells…

SHE WHIFFED MY TAIL…

Mom L did not get a photo…but she did, apparently…totally enjoy seeing The Kid Sage take such advantage of my ‘exposed’ tail…pffffttt!

Well, I say…turn about is fair play…right??!!

Who ME? Take advantage??? Why, never, no, not at all

Who ME? Take advantage??? Why, never, no, not at all

I waited, and waited…until just this week when my opportunity came along…

The Kid Sage was once again going after the “cat treat pillow stash”…

What? I was just looking!

What? I was just looking!

Yeah, right Kid!…

She is right behind me, right? Oh please Ceiling Cat protect me!!

She is right behind me, right? Oh please Ceiling Cat protect me!!

My opportunity to return the ‘tail whiffie’ finally arrived…

I am not going to be tempted

I am not going to be tempted

I resisted…honestly I did…but the urge just was too strong…

You want me do "what" with that tail??

You want me do “what” with that tail??

Yes, I DID indeed inhale…sigh…

After that bit of ‘inhalation therapy’…I just could not resist…especially after The Kid Sage decided to whap my with her tail flicking…I did, I did, I confess…I hissed…but I DID NOT WITHDRAW nor did I attack her.

That is our “Progress Report” for now.  Day by day…patience, love, kindness and understanding from our human guardians…brings me further and further into a world of trust and acceptance.

Do You Really Want to Know How We Write?: Monday Meowsie News

(hover over photos to read complete captions and click to bigify)

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

We were invited to participate in the “My Writing Process Tour” by our friends over at The Cat On My Head.  And, ummmmm…actually…we were  also invited even before that by my adventure pal Nissy, from Nerissa’s Life.

We declined Nissy’s invite because we had some Paw It Forward Projects going on…like helping Tigger find his very own forever castle…read all about Tigger’s search HERE.

Anyway, when Astrid, Calista Josette, Fiona, Giulietta, Lily Olivia, Lisbeth, Misty May and Mauricio invited us, we decided we really did want to share how we do what we do and why we do it…and also…why we are thinkin’ about changing our game plan.

But, that change stuff can wait.

Let’s talk about right now.  First, we want to thank Nissy for our first invite…no hard feelings I hope…

nerissa

And now we want to thank the gang from The Cat on My Head…we especially enjoy all the different personalities in this gang, although we do wonder if Mauricio sometimes feels like the odd cat out…na’ mean?  If you like to have a smile with your morning tea or coffee or your bowl of water or cat milk…then this is a great place to visit while you are sipping and lapping.

One of the ‘rules’ in this Writing Tour is that we are supposed to tag a couple of other bloggers to carry it on.  However, we know so many of you have already completed this Writing Tour so we aren’t going to be asking others to follow us, hope that is OK..

Right then, let’s get to it…

Oh, wait a minute…I almost forgot…as you know I don’t always follow the rules…so Mom L and I decided we want to move that Question #1 to the end…so that makes it ‘our’ Question #3…got it?

I changed the questions around, ok?

I changed the questions around, ok?

Now let’s get to answering…

Question #1

Why do we write what we do?

Sharing is caring we think…so if I can learn how to show more and more of my REAL SELF, then you are going to hear about… we care about our readers and want to share my progress.  You give me strength and courage…both my cat pals and my woofie pals as well…

My REAL SELF continues to emerge

My REAL SELF continues to emerge

And look at me…I have even started to learn how to relate to another cat…slow, but steady progress ever since The Kid Sage showed up in my castle.

The Kid Sage arrived, I hissed and now our tails have met

The Kid Sage arrived, I hissed and now our tails have met

You notice we also write about adult rescue animals and we write to share our experiences, well…Mom L’s experiences because I don’t go outside…related to helping get more cats spayed and neutered and helping rescues organizations care for feral cats and their kittens.  And of course we also work hard to help adult dogs get to their forever homes as well.  You have seen some of the clinics Mom L has helped with on our blog posts.  We will always share our Paw It Forward Projects…and maybe even one day there will be a special day just for this…more later about that…heh…heh…

paw it forward

We want to increase responsible care of companion animals everywhere and that means we need to keep our readers learning about ways we can all help in our own communities.

 Question #2

How does our writing process work?

Oh gosh…we are not too sure…it is different for me than for Mom L…mostly Mom L depends on me, and sometimes even The Kid Sage to sort of ‘transfer’ our thoughts to her while we are sharing time together…what we want her to say is delivered sort of by osmosis…na’ mean?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And sometimes I need to dictate directly to Mom L…so I use my iPad and even take over our laptop…The Kid Sage…she uses her chin…

Question #3

What are we working on?

First, there is what I, Savannah, am working on…and then there is what she,Mom L my typist, is working on..

Let me make this very clear…there is a typist, Mom L,  and a snoopervisor, ME, on this blog. The Kid Sage is simply occasional entertainment…Ok, ok…she may also provide some small amount of potential possible companionship for me…but ONLY if she is at least 24 1/16 inches (61.1 centimetres) away from my royal personage.

“What?  Mom L, did you say something?…*shuffles paws*…”alright, I’ll be nicer about Sage…so let’s move right along shall we?”

Here is what we, collectively, are working on…

  1. First, things are changing…not saying how…but I am ready to say when…watch for October 1.  That’s a Wednesday you say?  Right..and we don’t post on Wednesday now…Right?  Like I said, things are changing around our blog.  Be here on Oct 1 if you want to have a looksee at how we are shaking things up a bit.
this is change

Can you guess my Oct 1 change?

  • We are trying to learn how to work with vendors, artists and creative people who make interesting products for companion animals…to bring more products to our blog so we can raise funds for no kill rescues around the world…we cannot do this alone….back to you later on this one too…heh…heh
  • Our Paw It Forward Projects are taking off…and we are hoping you will want to try one out for yourself over the next few months and share that with us…more about that in another post…(lots of anticipation huh?)  This is Cash, a Sibe who may have just found his forever home…details in coming days…thank you to all who have promoted him…read HERE
Hey, I may have my forever home!

Hey, I may have my forever home!

  • We are going to keep Real Rescue Stories front and center so we all get to feel good
  • My own recovery from trauma in my first 5 years is continuing to progress and I promise to continue to share my good moments and my challenging moments…even the ones that I am sort of embarrassed about…sigh…progress is not easy

That’s it…that’s what we are working on…

Making A Difference

So, let’s get started…can you help us keep Tigger in the public eye?  He is still desperate for his very own home where he can be brushed a hunnert times a day; he has a lap whenever he wants; he gets automatic play time at his beck and call…not too much to ask…don’t you think?

Please…SHARE SHARE SHARE…Tigger is still hoping…
