HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

DSC_4967 edit

This is a product review for Chewy.com…for cat food…very good cat food…apparently ‘exceptional food’ when considered by other ‘species’…oh yes…you are certainly going to want to read on…seriously…just sayin’….

The product is Best Feline Friends, which is made by Weruva.  Now in this feline friendly home we believe that Weruva is one of the brands that pays particular attention to making sure that their cat food products are just about some of the best produced.

When we searched to find some opinions…we were especially impressed with the review published by our great friends over at The Conscious Cat.  The review was last year…but they addressed our very first concern…what in the world does “Product of Thailand” imply???  You can read their review right HERE…and this is what they say about the concern over their production in Thailand…

Their diets are made in Thailand.
I generally prefer foods that are manufactured in the US. David Forman explained: “Our foods are produced in a facility in Thailand that also makes food for people around the world, including the US and the strict EU and Japan. Similar to our USDA, there is a branch in Thailand called the Department of Livestock Development (DLD). The chickens we source in Thailand are part of an Animal Welfare Standard that sets forth ethical treatment guidelines that helps protect livestock and cattle at the farm, during transport and at the time of processing. Thailand is the 3rd or 4th largest poultry producer in the world for human consumption with much of it exported…so there is heavy regulation by the Thai government to ensure the ethical treatment of animals as well as high processing standards. The diets of the chickens is non-GMO.

And here is what we learned about the ingredients of the BFF products we reviewed…

The Ingredients – The main ingredient is a red meat or dark meat from tuna, primarily skipjack or bonito, two smaller and highly sustainable species. The cuts contain lean muscle meat and have a taste and aroma that drives kitties wild! Amongst the various flavors, we include value added toppers such as boneless skinless chicken breast, duck, lamb, salmon, shrimp and pumpkin.

Wild Caught and Dolphin Safe – And speaking of kitties going wild for BFF, all of the fish used is wild caught, with the exception of tilapia. The catches of fish are also certified to have been safe for dolphins and turtles, as certified by the ships’ captains.

Having read all that…Mom L decided it was ‘A OKAY’ for her precious girls to have a sample of this food…

…and moving on to more discriminate palates…heh…heh

Mom L decided to take the product review one step further and asked Miss Tammy, my hero, if we could ask her cats to give this product a try…and of course…she said “YES”

…you are so going to luvluvluv this slideshow…

Now we can give this product from Weruva…Best Feline Friends…TWENTY PAWS UP…and FOUR of those PAWS are from a WOOFIE!!!!

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!

I'm excited, really, I just don't show emotion

I’m excited, really, I just don’t show emotion

We are just thrilled to bring a very happy rescue story to you…it is about a panther mancat in Southern California who is now in his forever home living with very good friends of Mom L and Dad P.

I invited our new Cuzin to ask his Mom Marie to share his rescue story with all of you…I know how much we all luvluvluv Real Rescue Cats Talking!!

Please meet Cuzin Midnight!!

Hey Everyone...this is the photo that got me my home!

Hey Everyone…this is the photo that got me my home!

APAWS!!  APAWS!!   APAWS!!

I asked Mom Marie some questions…here are her responses…

  • How did you find Cuzin Midnight?

I found Midnight on Petfinder.com.  He was at a shelter in Baldwin Park—outside Los Angeles.

We lost our rescue cat Marmalade (after 15 years) on May 16th.

IMG_0152

Charles missed him so much that I decided we should think about adoption sooner rather than later.  I was looking for a kitty that did not look like Marmalade since the loss was too recent and I didn’t think it was fair to the new kid.  I think I looked at a hundred different cats before I saw Midnight.

He immediately stole my heart.  I looked at more pictures and read more descriptions, but he was always “The One.”  The Baldwin Park shelter is part of Los Angeles animal rescue, a kill shelter.

However, Midnight had an angel named Mary from United Hope for Animals.  She is a cat person and she had met him at the shelter.  Her cause was to find him a home.  Without her, I am not sure that it would have happened.  He was also accepted into the PETCO adoption program.  A lovely lady who volunteers at the shelter takes cats to PETCO where they have an adoption center.  We actually met Midnight at the PETCO store in West Covina (only about 5 minutes from the Baldwin Park shelter) and took him home from there.   When the adoption is complete, PETCO gives a book of coupons for everything that you might need for your new friend.

  •  Do you know how Midnight ended up in the kill shelter?

Midnight was surrendered by his owner.  He is a wonderful cat so I am sure he came from a loving home.  He was neutered and micro chipped when he arrived at the shelter.

Midnight came into the shelter on June 6th.  He went home with us on June 20th.  He wasn’t thrilled with the 110 mile car ride and he talked to us about it all the way home.  Something about all these promises of a wonderful new home and all he could see was a very small carrier!!

  •  Does Cuzin Midnight get along with your other fur family?

We have a Golden Retriever named Molly.

Molly...she has been a therapy woofie

Molly…she has been a therapy woofie

Obviously, it is a concern when two adult kids have to meet and greet for the first time.  No one could give us any idea if Midnight liked or hated dogs, so we had to take a chance.

Since Marmalade had trained Molly really well in social skills relating to cats, we were 99% sure that Molly would be okay with all of it.  Midnight was the unknown.  They met, they touched noses and sniffed and immediately settled into mutual tolerance.

Neither one has hissed, barked, cuffed or attacked the other.  They both seem content with each other’s company.  Midnight does like to leap over Molly at breakneck speed to get her attention and he thinks that her tail is the best toy he owns.

Molly just looks at him with a look that says, “I can’t believe you just did that.”

Our vet thinks that our little boy is about 3 years old.  He becomes more playful each day and has blossomed into a beautiful boy.  He is strictly an inside cat and makes no attempt to leave the house.  He does spend time sitting on his cat perch watching for a lizard that lives in the small garden next to the kitchen.   Also, a zillion hummingbirds enjoy the garden which affords hours of amusement.

We are very happy that we decided to adopt sooner rather than later.  It does not make us miss or love Marmalade less since, clearly, we have enough space in our hearts to keep the old memories and to make new memories.

And now for those photos you have all been waiting for…first…we, The Kid Sage and I, decided to put together a little “Welcome to The Promised Land” gift box for our new Cuzin Midnight…and of course Sage…she had to snoopervise everything!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

…in fact she so closely snoopervised the Nip Ball that Mom L had to go get a new one for Cuzin Midnight!  How could we send him the one The Kid Sage had slobbered on??

And now you can see Cuzin Midnight enjoying his new home and his Welcome to The Promised Land gift box…

Do You Really Want to Know How We Write?: Monday Meowsie News

(hover over photos to read complete captions and click to bigify)

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

We were invited to participate in the “My Writing Process Tour” by our friends over at The Cat On My Head.  And, ummmmm…actually…we were  also invited even before that by my adventure pal Nissy, from Nerissa’s Life.

We declined Nissy’s invite because we had some Paw It Forward Projects going on…like helping Tigger find his very own forever castle…read all about Tigger’s search HERE.

Anyway, when Astrid, Calista Josette, Fiona, Giulietta, Lily Olivia, Lisbeth, Misty May and Mauricio invited us, we decided we really did want to share how we do what we do and why we do it…and also…why we are thinkin’ about changing our game plan.

But, that change stuff can wait.

Let’s talk about right now.  First, we want to thank Nissy for our first invite…no hard feelings I hope…

nerissa

And now we want to thank the gang from The Cat on My Head…we especially enjoy all the different personalities in this gang, although we do wonder if Mauricio sometimes feels like the odd cat out…na’ mean?  If you like to have a smile with your morning tea or coffee or your bowl of water or cat milk…then this is a great place to visit while you are sipping and lapping.

catonmyhead

One of the ‘rules’ in this Writing Tour is that we are supposed to tag a couple of other bloggers to carry it on.  However, we know so many of you have already completed this Writing Tour so we aren’t going to be asking others to follow us, hope that is OK..

Right then, let’s get to it…

Oh, wait a minute…I almost forgot…as you know I don’t always follow the rules…so Mom L and I decided we want to move that Question #1 to the end…so that makes it ‘our’ Question #3…got it?

I changed the questions around, ok?

I changed the questions around, ok?

Now let’s get to answering…

Question #1

Why do we write what we do?

Sharing is caring we think…so if I can learn how to show more and more of my REAL SELF, then you are going to hear about… we care about our readers and want to share my progress.  You give me strength and courage…both my cat pals and my woofie pals as well…

My REAL SELF continues to emerge

My REAL SELF continues to emerge

And look at me…I have even started to learn how to relate to another cat…slow, but steady progress ever since The Kid Sage showed up in my castle.

The Kid Sage arrived, I hissed and now our tails have met

The Kid Sage arrived, I hissed and now our tails have met

You notice we also write about adult rescue animals and we write to share our experiences, well…Mom L’s experiences because I don’t go outside…related to helping get more cats spayed and neutered and helping rescues organizations care for feral cats and their kittens.  And of course we also work hard to help adult dogs get to their forever homes as well.  You have seen some of the clinics Mom L has helped with on our blog posts.  We will always share our Paw It Forward Projects…and maybe even one day there will be a special day just for this…more later about that…heh…heh…

paw it forward

We want to increase responsible care of companion animals everywhere and that means we need to keep our readers learning about ways we can all help in our own communities.

 Question #2

How does our writing process work?

Oh gosh…we are not too sure…it is different for me than for Mom L…mostly Mom L depends on me, and sometimes even The Kid Sage to sort of ‘transfer’ our thoughts to her while we are sharing time together…what we want her to say is delivered sort of by osmosis…na’ mean?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And sometimes I need to dictate directly to Mom L…so I use my iPad and even take over our laptop…The Kid Sage…she uses her chin…

Question #3

What are we working on?

First, there is what I, Savannah, am working on…and then there is what she,Mom L my typist, is working on..

Let me make this very clear…there is a typist, Mom L,  and a snoopervisor, ME, on this blog. The Kid Sage is simply occasional entertainment…Ok, ok…she may also provide some small amount of potential possible companionship for me…but ONLY if she is at least 24 1/16 inches (61.1 centimetres) away from my royal personage.

“What?  Mom L, did you say something?…*shuffles paws*…”alright, I’ll be nicer about Sage…so let’s move right along shall we?”

Here is what we, collectively, are working on…

  1. First, things are changing…not saying how…but I am ready to say when…watch for October 1.  That’s a Wednesday you say?  Right..and we don’t post on Wednesday now…Right?  Like I said, things are changing around our blog.  Be here on Oct 1 if you want to have a looksee at how we are shaking things up a bit.
this is change

Can you guess my Oct 1 change?

  • We are trying to learn how to work with vendors, artists and creative people who make interesting products for companion animals…to bring more products to our blog so we can raise funds for no kill rescues around the world…we cannot do this alone….back to you later on this one too…heh…heh
  • Our Paw It Forward Projects are taking off…and we are hoping you will want to try one out for yourself over the next few months and share that with us…more about that in another post…(lots of anticipation huh?)  This is Cash, a Sibe who may have just found his forever home…details in coming days…thank you to all who have promoted him…read HERE
Hey, I may have my forever home!

Hey, I may have my forever home!

  • We are going to keep Real Rescue Stories front and center so we all get to feel good
  • My own recovery from trauma in my first 5 years is continuing to progress and I promise to continue to share my good moments and my challenging moments…even the ones that I am sort of embarrassed about…sigh…progress is not easy

That’s it…that’s what we are working on…

Making A Difference

So, let’s get started…can you help us keep Tigger in the public eye?  He is still desperate for his very own home where he can be brushed a hunnert times a day; he has a lap whenever he wants; he gets automatic play time at his beck and call…not too much to ask…don’t you think?

Please…SHARE SHARE SHARE…Tigger is still hoping…
