Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

Did you have a busy weekend? We did!!

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Our week-o-end was all about getting our two special irritating foster kittens adopted. Mom L and Dad P took the two kittens to their first two adoption days this Saturday and Sunday at a local Petco store.

You can tell from the photos that sweet Katie, the ten month old survivor from the apartment hoarding place, just shut down on her first day. It was really tough on her. Katie was only five months old when Mom L and Dad P rescued her and she had already had a litter of kittens ‘cuz Mom L could see she had been lactating very recently. Katie has had a struggle to overcome her five months of tragic abuse.

Katie terrified at being in a new environment

Now little Lilly, about eighteen weeks old, at first thought this was gonna be an adventure, so she was willing to check out what was going on.

Hey guys, can I get outta here?

And then Lilly retreated to her comforter, her Auntie Katie and the two hung together for the duration of two afternoon spent at an adoption site at a Petco.

Thankfully we have each other

It will be a long road to getting these two now very bonded kittens adopted. But more about that later.

Mom L also helped one of the local colony feeders get a new cat in for spay, only to learn this cat had a microchip!! Well, her name is Lily, she was adopted at our local animal services just about a year ago and the people and phone numbers on that chip said “not my cat”. So this sweet kitty is now available for adoption at our local animal services by December 12.

What do you mean ? I had a family and they abandoned me???

My last news update is about Stan the mancat. Unfortunately Stan does not appreciate being in the animal shelter…duh!!!???  So he is starting to “stress bite” anyone who pets him. He doesn’t break skin, just gives “firm bitey bites”. So after serious soul searching, Mom L and Dad P decided to return Stan to his former caretakers. They are a really nice family who are welcoming Stan back with open arms. We are donating an outdoor house for Stan and some food to get the family started.

I just luvluvluv humans!! and pets!!

I will have a SPECIAL BLOG POST on Monday, December 17 about a fund raiser to help my Paw It Forward work with our two current foster kittens, Katie and Lilly. Please do put this on your calendar as a “must read”!!

  1. I do hope the two kittens can get acclimatised to the adoption process, though I know how very hard it is for us cats, and also how unwilling some humans can be to have the patience needed to make a go of it. Here’s to Stan the man getting back where he is comfortable. You tried and did the best, but the dude was just not ready and able. No shame it is life and his needs come first. I am so glad you are so switched on and caring to see and act as you did.
    Gentle purrs for all

  2. I’m keeping my paws crossed for forever homes for these kitties,xx Speedy

  3. Sounds like things will work out for Stan -bless his former humans who were so glad to see him.
Poor Katie and Lily – so scared. Hopefully with a few more visits they will lose some of their fears. Or a knowledgeible human will fall in love with them/

And the Lily-with-the-chip ? How did the not-my-cat-people get on that microchip ? Magical ! Hope SHE gets a furever home for Christmas.
Blessings to your Mom & Dad and all the peeps helping the cats !

  4. The stories of those kitties are so heartbreaking ! We hope they find a forever home soon. We’re glad Stan could go back to his former caretaker. Purrs

  5. Purrs and prayers to those sweeties and we’re glad Stan is going “home” where he can be happy.

  10. Your human is working so hard for these kitties! And they all have such sad stories. 😦 I would love to see them find homes really soon.

  11. Oh did. No-one came for Stan! Mums nearly in tears ….,,

    • Stan was giving bitey bites almost every time I pet him. Being in the shelter, even though in a large enclosure, was likely stressing him. His bites were firm, but if I had jerked my hand away he would have drawn blood. If he bit a potential adopter or shelter staff he would have been quarantined for 14 days my causing more stress or even euthanized dur to his FIV+. For his safety I removed him from adoption available. He needs a very cat savvy human if he ever gets an I side home. His former caretakers are really pleased to have him back.

  12. Wow, ,your poor kittens. Sad they are so scared. Hope some good peeps will see through that and make them part of their family. And about that most lovely Black Lily? OMC:(
That makes me sad and angry. Hope she gets the best new home she could ever dream of.

  13. Furrst of all – a giant hissssss to those horrible people who abandoned sweet Lily. We hope that Karma catches up with them. They should be blacklisted by all the local animal services.
Secondly, We are glad things worked out for Stan.
Last, but definitely not least, We hope that some way will be found for Katie and Lilly to stay together. Katie, especially, reminds Mummy of Angel Possum. She and Lilly are so sweet.

  14. we wish Katie all the best… and we have no words for the (non) owners of Lily… so sad ;O(((

That’s just heartbreaking about poor Katie being so overwhelmed. We have our paws crossed that she and Lilly find a forever home together. As for housepanther Lily’s former people abandoning her — that’s terrible. We hope they get what’s coming to them, and pray that Lily gets the loving happily ever after she deserves. And it sounds like Stan’s situation will suit him well. Hooray for his former caretakers being willing to take care of him again.
