Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

It’s SNIP Time Again!! #TNRWORKS

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Lots of my readers are always excited to see our quarterly SNIP Clinic (spay, neuter impact program). Mom L has been volunteering at SNIP for almost two years and Dad P has been doing this close to one year.

Mom L always works the admission so they can note each entering cat’s coat color, length of coat and any medical concerns easily visible like a few who enter with trap butting nose injuries. They also note if the trapped cat has any food or empty food dishes in their trap. Those always go last to S/N just in case they ate on that morning.

Dad P works transport. It is a very tough job, as those cats in traps weigh a lot! He takes them from admissions to the sedation station at first. Then later on in the morning he starts taking them from surgery to the recovery room, where Mom L is then waiting to help care for them.

Here are a few of the totally awesome and gorgeous cats that come through admissions.

This is an ALL VOLUNTEER clinic, including the Vets and Vet Techs. And SNIP has its very own caterers!! Seriously, a few people deliver the most amazing AM and lunch foods, always gluten free, vegan choices!! What  delight! And those deviled eggs are Mom L’s fave!

TKS and I are so proud of Mom L and Dad P and all the others who volunteer on this special day, four times a year in Contra Costa County. Thank you to SNIP!!

PAW PATS, SAVANNAH—I will be dark on Wednesday, August 3. My apologies

This Cat Made It Home #RTFworks

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!

Bet’cha you have been wondering what Mom L has been doin’ with her Feline Express™ Driver’s credentials. Well she hasn’t been doin’ lots but I thought you would get a great big smile on your faces just watching this big mancat get home.

Mr Tomcat was in a bit of a huff when Mom L first lifted the blanket off his feral den.

Don't talk to me! Do you know what they did to me??

Don’t talk to me! Do you know what they did to me??

Eventually, he became a bit more curious as to what was going on.

Ok lady. I can see you. Now get me outta this tiny den!

Ok lady. I can see you. Now get me outta this tiny den!

Mr Tomcat weighed in at about 13 pounds (about 5.8 kg). Add the weight of the feral den and Mom L was happy she had asked Dad P to come along!

Our county animal shelter has had a tough time keeping up with the S/N for all the community cats being trapped and brought in. Mr. Tomcat was one of the lucky ones who got his neuter done faster.

Outcast Cat Help collaborated with Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) and Sacramento SPCA to clean out the shelter’s “feral room”. Forty community cats aka ferals, were transported last Sunday, about 2 hours each way, to Sac SPCA where they were spayed and neutered and returned late that same day. All for only 17USD!!! Let’s hear it for Sacramento SPCA!!! APAWS!!!

CCAS paid for 34 of the cats S/N fees and an anonymous donor covered the cost for the remaining six feral cats.

Forty kitties off for S/N

Mom L volunteers with Outcast Cat Help as a Feline Express™ driver which I have shared with you several times before, HERE. They do a lot of good with little funding. And our county animal services is not the cause of their inability to keep up with the high volume of S/N needed right now. The accountability falls directly on the shoulders of our Contra Costa County government and Board of Supervisors. They simply refuse to open their eyes to the challenges of cat over population in this county and leave the solution to be carried on the backs of the small private cat rescues and other nearby counties who are willing to help those rescues.

*dusts off white tipped paws, and steps off soap box*

Here is a happy Mr Tomcat being released to a yard he knows all too well. Watch how he goes right to the fence he has climbed many times before, knew right where it would be.

Momma Kat's Story

Here Fishie, Fishie!

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!

I am hoping that my pals over at Trout Towne are gonna finally be pleased with at least one product review I write this year. This product is alllllllll whitefish! Yep, that’s right, not one little itty bitty additive. Just nice totally stinky smelly whitefish sourced in the UK. Noe burd parts whatsoever!

NOE BURDS A LOUD!!!

In fact, these little chunks of freeze dried whitefish smell and taste so fresh—just tasting them transported The Kid Sage to the UK where she dreamed she was catching those fishies herself. In case ya haven’t guessed it, as a #chewyinfluencer, I am bringing you a yummy product review.

sage fishes

At first TKS didn’t think much of the treat canister…

what's that?

…but then Mom L took the lid off. The rest is just what you have come to expect from TKS. Thank you Chewy for giving her such pleasure!

sniff, snort

TKS must have thought she was in fishie heaven once she caught that smelly aroma. These treats are 100 per cent grain free! And they are truly fish only, that smell can’t come from anything other than pure fish, trust me. TKS led her investigation with her nose!

dumpster nose

And if that wasn’t enough, she decided to try paw fishing and see what she could catch in that canister!

just a dip

She got her own taste sample, about six pieces before Mom L could get that canister out of her reach. Can you see her paw fork action in this next photo?

hooked a fish

On the other paw, as you probably already guessed, I was less enthused.

zzzzzzz

Until that canister lid was opened.

powerful smell

It really is true, we cats are drawn toward all that carries that stinky goodness smell. Now “drawn toward” does not mean we actually wanna consume what is giving off that smell. Although as you can see in my sniff test photo, the smell was strong enough to make me lick my lips.

*lick, lick*

In the end, I just couldn’t do it. No taste test for me, sorry Chewy and Weruva, I give it four paws down.

Really? Please take it away

So the Weruva Whitefish freeze dried cat treats get four paws up and four paws down from my castle home taste tests. But don’t let that dissuade you from trying these 100 per cent grain free, all whitefish ingredients, treats. Let’s take a look at the ingredient list.

Ingredients
Whitefish (boneless fish filet)
Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein (min.) 76.6%, Crude Fat (min.) 7.0%, Crude Fibre (max.) 0.1%, Moisture (max.) 5.0%

You can get these yummy treats direct from CHEWY>COM!  Now hurry up and order yours before the gang at Trout Towne buy the whole lot of this product!!!

We were not financially compensated by Chewy.com nor Weruva to write this review. We did receive, from Chewy.com,  one free canister of the product we are reviewing. All our experiences and opinions are our own. Savannah’s Paw Tracks only reviews products we believe our readers might be able to use and enjoy safely.
