Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

#RememberMeThursday #SeeTheLight

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I am joining two important events today with my blog post. #RememberMeThursday and my pal Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop.

Remember Me Thursday started in 2013 and I have joined this movement and posted every year since 2016.

On September 23, 2021, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption, and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. Since its inception in 2013, Remember Me Thursday® has made more than 1.5 billion impressions on social media.

On #RememberMeThursday, love your rescue and help others #SeeTheLight. It’s up to you to spread the word.

I am shining a light on one of my current castle guests, Eowyn, who we are fostering until she can find her forever home. She participated in her first adoption event at a pop up adoption site set up by our nonprofit pals Community Concern For Cats.

She, along with three other younger kittens, were dumped at a city park by the Delta. Thankfully, my nonprofit Delta View Cats, managed by Mom L and Dad P, humanely manages a cat colony there. We have feeding stations our city provided and one of our volunteer feeders found these wee ones August 26. He was able to pick up  one that was clearly struggling. A little 2 pound Siamese that could only spin around and around. By 10 PM August 27, Dad P and three other DVC volunteers had captured the remaining three. Sadly the little Siamese could not be treated at our animal services, and he, Dancer, was euthanized.

Eowyn and her likely cousins, Arwen and Frodo, are safe here in my castle. I am forever thankful that we were able to catch them and bring them into a home filled with love, patience and kindness. All three are ready for adoption.

Eowyn wanted to participate in this blog post, so I asked her to send a message to the world about her thoughts on humans stepping up to adopt kittens like her, she is only 7 months old and her cousins are 5 months old. Eowyn hopes that humans with compassion will come forward to adopt abandoned kittens like her and her cousins.

You can visit the Remember Me Thursday virtual candle gallery and add your own personal candle in remembrance of your very own rescued cat. I lit my candle and dedicated it to all the friendly abandoned community cats and kittens that are waiting on the streets and parks for a human to care enough about their welfare that they will trap them and foster them and help them find their forever homes just like me.

Remember, I was stuffed into a night drop box at our county animal shelter in early 2010. The shelter tried to get me adopted but I was extremely scared and shy. So I ended up on the euthanasia cart one day. My savior, Miss Tammy, a fellow animal rescue human, saw me and took me off the cart and home to foster until she could get my into her rescue and into an adoption path. I waited over a year for someone to recognize in me all the love I have to give to a human. Dad P and Mom L took me to foster and failed as fosters in a month!! I was home in January 2012!!!

Please help your local friendly street cats find their forever homes! And hop over to Brian’s blog to see all the other Thankful Thursday posts on his blog hop!

Video is worth a thousand meows

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Mom L was bizzy bizzy today; taking our three current castle introoders guests to their first ever adoption day. So I had to dictate a very short blog post just to get her to help me show up on Monday. So’s I created a very short little video/slideshow of two of our adult park colony cats showing us all what love and tenderness looks like.

Please meet Prince, the handsome fellow with the white chest and white paws and his new very best furriend, Florence. They have become best buddies over the past year. They demonstrate the gentle and kind compassionate bond many colony cats find with other colony members.

Sweet Florence was our park colony senior cat Garfield’s closest furriend and feline caretaker. Florence, from the Nightingale family, would go up the hill where Garfield lived every late afternoon to make sure he came down for his special wet food and to help him get there without a paw slip.

Humane management of abandoned community cat colonies is the BEST!!

Let me know in comments if you are able to help any abandoned community cat colonies in your area and what you do!! Photos please!
