Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

My Progress Is Showing

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!

I haven’t “officially” reported on my progress in a while. You see I am an adult shelter cat recovering from early kitten hood trauma. Yep, that’s me. I last talked about a bit of my current progress here.

What I didn’t tell you clearly is that I am finally, after almost five years in my forever home, bonding with Dad P! Yep, that’s right. Every morning now, for about the last two months, I look to Dad P, not Mom L, for my morning pet.

For those of you who have followed me from the beginning, you know that I have always been afraid of Dad P, and most other men. But times—they are ‘a changin’!

First time ever in five years—this morning, September 27th, I invited Dad P for a play with ME!!

wanna play

It turns out that I kind’a like the same wand toy TKS likes. It is the wand with ONLY the string attached!

I was havin’ a great romp with Dad P and then guess who showed up??

She is here

Once I saw Mom L was just tryin’ to capture “the moment”—I decided what the Mouses! Let’s do it again!

Let's go again

I forgot all about Mom L taking those photos and focused on my “ME TIME” with Dad P.

Savvy satisfied

I hope my readers understand what a HUGE BIG DEAL this is that I am asking Dad P for pets every single morning. I even give him little head butts! And now—I asked Dad P to play with me! This is HUGE progress for me. Thank you all for joining me in my journey to recover from early kittenhood trauma. Progress can be slow to show up, but it does if our guardians are patient and kind and understand we adult shelter rescue cats need both.

PAW PATS, SAVANNAH

  11. Congratulations Savannah! I’m so happy for you. It sounds like Dad P is a really cool guy. The fact that you are willing to play with him so readily shows that you like him already. I hope that there are many happy years ahead of you! 🙂

  12. What pawsome news! I bonded with Pop instantly cos right after I moved in, he went to the hospital and when he returned he didn’t go back to work for months. I got to spend lots of time with him. The only thing is I will not let him watch me playing with TW. I don’t want to make him jealous.

Mama Kat looks like a kitten in her new pic!

  24. Congratulations Savvy….I know DadP is as thrilled as all of US are – it’s taken you a while but “slowly but surely” is a lot more of a SAFE feeling for those who have had any kind of trauma in the past – – – DadP has been super patient and THAT’s the key. Good for you!

    Hugs, Sammy

Congratulations Savvy! I know I’ve always been five years ahead of you, and I was lucky to find my family earlier, only spending almost 6 months in a shelter, but I’ve always identified with your fight to find your true self. My HuMom is fighting a little bit of jealousy because I’ve been snuggling the boy at night. For years I’ve gotten my snuggle time from her but it turns out the boy is quire comfy too, and suitably impressed to have my attention. Here’s to continued progress at our own pace and good adopters everywhere!🍾

  28. Way to go HRH Savvannah, that is one big leap there, I bet Dad P is really looking forwards now to playtime each day a few headbumps and what ever you may offer! purrs ERin

  29. We could sure use that clear flap here, would be so nice to be able to keep the other cats out of Socks’ food, but be able to leave it out for him. Savvy we are so PROUD of you for playing with Dad P. Sometimes it takes us awhile to trust but once we do it’s magic.

Let us know about Momma Kat, we sure do hope she finds her home soon.

  30. That is HUGE progress, S. Play time is an important time, so letting someone join in is very special. You have the most patient parents ever.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  31. Mouses! that’s just great!!!! that are such super good news and you are the bestest russian blue princess :o) bet Nanuk is very proud now too :o)
