Andi the Feral Kitten: A Happy Tails Ending

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

first introduced you to Andi , our feral foster kitten, in late November 2017. (remember in all the gallery photos, drag your mousie after you have dedded it over each photo to view captions)

Andi was barely three months old and trapping her and her Mom cat, we named Mandi, was Mom L and Dad P’s first ever cat trap work. Mom L and I shared our news about deciding to keep Andi to foster and socialize her on December 4, 2017 . Her first week living in Mom L’s office was a shock for her. She did allow Mom L to touch her and eventually Mom L started to pick her up. Surprisingly, sweet Andi never did more than give a tiny little hiss. She never clawed, scratched, growled.

If you have followed Andi’s story, then you know that Dad P and Mom L had to release Andi’s mom cat, Mandi, back to the place where she was raising Andi. Sadly mom cat Mandi wasn’t ready just yet to be socialized. BUT—her feeder is workin’ on her as I type this Happy Tails Ending story!!

But I digressed, let me get back to Andi’s amazing story. Little Andi began to thrive and learn to trust human touch. Eventually Mom L and Dad P moved her to a larger enclosure where she could start to learn how to play. Remember, she was an only kitten and she had never played with any other kitty but her mom. And she was really too young to have begun to learn to stalk her “prey” so she didn’t know what to do with the wand toy schmousie at first.

Wait! What? You want ME to touch that schmousie???

The above pose is a classic Andi pose as she gets ready to play with anything. She always raised her right paw before she reached out to paw whap whatever she was playing with. There are other wonderful poses, special Andi poses that we all came to look for with anticipated joy and pleasure. Mom L’s camera loved working with Andi.

Finally the day arrived when we thought is was for Andi’s best interest to take her to my former kitty shelter, Kitty Corner. We knew that Miss Chrissy would make sure Andi was adopted by the bestest fit family ever—just like she did for me when Mom L and Dad P adopted me in 2012!

It was tough at first for Andi. Remember she had not grown up with any siblings and the only humans she knew were Mom L and Dad P. She spent much of her first days at Kitty Corner in a special cubby on a cat tower made cozy with a special brand new blankie Mr. Terry brought in for her. Mr. Terry is a very special man who luvluvluvs cats just like Dad P.

I’m scared…can I just go back home purrlease?

Dad P and Mom L visited Andi every day trying to help her learn how to play in such a large open space as Kitty Corner. This was the largest room she had ever been in. Besides, remember Andi didn’t ever know any other cat but her mom cat. So now she had seven to ten other cats aged seven months to over five years housed with her.

But Andi being Andi, she started to adjust with Mom L and Dad P’s help. She responded to her favorite wand toy. That schmousie!!

Oh!! My schmousie followed me here!!

And then just two days later Dad P and Mom L saw with their very own eyes our little teensy Andi climb to the tippy top of a tall cat tower and then—she jumped to another one!!! Aiiiieeee! So brave and so confident she was becoming!

And then the day arrived when our precious beloved little Andi was discovered by a young family. (human faces disguised to protect family’s privacy)

They arrived to adopt a seven month old kitten named Joey, but then through encouragement from the Kitty Corner staff, they considered adopting another kitty so Joey would have a play pal.

Now Joey and our Andi had never met, but everyone figured “heck, they are youngsters” so no problem, right? Well Andi was more willing to give their relationship a try than Joey was at first. However it seems like they are adjusting to each other.

Mom L and Dad P are relieved that the family’s son, the oldest, at age thirteen has chosen to be Andi’s champion and protector and bestest ever pal!!

They look good together, don’t ya think??

Now Andi and Joey will always be inside only cats, but just check out how much this family luvluvluvs animals of all species!

Andi’s human, Mr. Austin, asked if his bedroom could be Andi’s special “alone time/safe zone” room and guess what? Andi agreed wholeheartedly! She started snoozing with Mr. Austin immediately and now his bed is her bed!!

Please give our precious Andi a very special round of APAWS! for finding her forever family.

Forever our special feral foster heart kitten—our Andi!

Cat Kitchen Clinic to Real Cat Clinic

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

You have all read my multiple posts over the last five years about the pawsome medical attention community cats receive from Community Concern 4 Cats. If you have forgotten, check out the following links: Here, here. here, and here.

There are many more blog posts here at Savannah’s Paw Tracks about Mom L’s volunteer work with this pawsome community cat rescue. This cat rescue dreams large and they succeed.

Community Concern 4 Cats, aka CC4C, opened their very own cat clinic this year. APAWS!!

No longer attending to community cats in a kitchen, they are now attending to community cats in their very own clinic. Check out their new clinic!

CC4C was able to purchase a cat clinic as the resident feline doc was retiring. Mom L and Dad P have been able to use their professional licensed services for several of the cats we have helped since moving to our new home. Remember Rocky, Jessie and Chloe??

Every green paper this rescue can raise goes to help community cats, their care givers and feeders and community citizens who need a low cost S/N alternative to the high cost of private veterinary clinics.

Success with a Cat Trap

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Mom L has been putting up some photos of a Mom cat and her four to five month old kitten on our Face Book pages. So if you follow her, then you may have seen some of these photos.

But, I am here today with the back story and progress that we made just yesterday on our new Paw It Forward Project! You got it! I’m gonna make sure this cat and her kitten are spayed, neutered, vaccinated to keep them healthy if they decide they still wanna live in the outdoors. Dad P and Mom L spotted them just up the street from our home. They were living behind a really nice Elk’s Lodge under a super warm, dry and cool large patio with a great roof. I named mom cat “Mandy” and the kitten “Andi”—we didn’t know what sex the kitten was at the time I was writing this blog post. (pEEeSS Andi is a GIRL!!)

Mom L started by feeding them in a double bowl but Mandy always stayed behind to keep watch over Andi and make sure she got enough to eat. So, Dad P suggested feeding them in separate bowls and a distance apart. You can see that Andi kept an eye on her mom to make sure she didn’t leave her. And Mandy was able to eat a really nice evening meal all by herself.

Of course unknown to Mandy and Andi, Mom L was plotting to get them positioned outside that lodge enclosure and eating together so’s she could finally trap them. Amazing that Andi became very accustomed to Mom L in just a couple of days and would come bounding over within just a few feet of Mom L. Andi was eager for her yummy meal. Mandy on the other paw took a few days more, but even she warmed up and started to come right to the food bowl without any hesitation once Mom L walked away several feet.

Isn’t she pretty? And you can tell she kept her eyes on Mom L just to be sure her baby was safe. They would retreat behind the fence and a wooden pallet to do their after dinner cleaning.

Next Mom L and Dad P brought out this amazing trap one of Mom L’s community cat rescue pals created! Yes, he came up with this design on his own and built it. It is crazy effective too. It has a hard floor with a little porch. You can put some yummy noms on that porch to draw a kitty close. And that is a drop door, which is able to be managed with a small device like a garage door opener. The door can be dropped shut tight from across a street!

First night, which was our Saturday, that Mom L and her pal tried the trap—KABAM!!!! They caught BOTH Mandy and Andi!!! Mind you the kitties were terrified, but they were now gonna be taken care of and there will be no more babies. They both went in yesterday morning, after spending a quiet night cozy in our warm garage, for their Spay and Neuter and vaccinations, rabies and flea treatment and micro-chipping. Mom L’s pal Miss Kris was able to get them into a place called Fix Our Ferals for free service! Awesome, huh?!!

Here is where they will come for their recovery and attempts by Mom L and Dad P to socialize them. And yes, Mom L’s office is once again off limits to me and TKS.

After a week or so, if Mandy/Andi don’t show any sign of wanting human contact, then we will release them back to that lodge. They have a really nice lady who feeds them twice a day and they are even now in great condition. Beautiful furrs!! And good body weight.

Check back next Monday for another update on how things go.
