Ahhh…The Smell of Night…
Hiya Efurrybody! I thought I would talk to you about how much I am learning about ‘smells’. As you know, I don’t go out…but Mom and Dad leave our windows open and our sliders to the deck so I get to smell the air…and I am learning that Day smells can be so different from Night smells…
Mom left the slider from our bedroom open the other night…and the shutters were back too so I could get right up to the screen…WOW!
It was dark out…but I walked real slow and quiet like over to the open slider…and kind’a cautious at first…I held my nose up to sniff…I sat back a bit far so I had’ta sort’a stretch my neck so’s my nose could get real close to the screen…
…ohh…what’s that I smell kind’a low and off to the right??…hmmmm…
…wait a minute!…there is something else way over here…what the heck is that??….
…no, no, wait…oh there is something else coming in…hmmm…what is that???….
…oh yes!…back over here…down low…catgone it!…what is that???….sniff, sniff, sniff…
…OH! it moved!…it’s up there!…wow!…that is incredible!!!…how interesting!…
…OH MY CAT!…looks like it moved way over to the left…whoa!!…sniff, sniff, sniff…
…YIKES!!…now it’s way up there…what is that??…sniff, sniff, sniff…(notice my butt has NOT moved…only my head…takes expert FBI skills to sniff the night without movin’ your butt…just sayin’…)
…oh well…it’s gone…but oh, the smell of the night!…ya just can’t beat it…nice!
Hope you are all having a wonderful day sniffing all the smells wherever you are.
Paw Pats, Savannah
PS I think I was pretty brave to check out the night smells like, what do you guys think???

Night smells are totally different than day smells I agree! Plus it’s usually a whole lot quieter so we can hear things creeping around out there as well as smell them.
Kitty Hugs, Sam
you are right! Never thought about it but of course all the day time sounds are absent so I can hear better…probably why I heard the intruder we had on our deck, right outside my bedroom slider door 10 days ago!!! Scary! I ran to the living room to make sure the person ran off…Mom called cops…we live in totally quiet safe neighborhood…but hard to be quiet walking on our huge redwood deck…ugh!
Hi Savannah – is it really hot where you live? If so, then night probably smells better than any other part of the day 😉
it was kind’a warm that night…but I live in the San Francisco Bay Area…on the East Bay and inland so we get more hot days in Summer than those living on the bay itself. And the night smells are way better after a warm day!
Mmm, we’ve never had night smells before. “Mommy, open the window!”
Get outta here! Ya never had night smells??? Want me to see if I can send ya some???
Hi Savannah! Fanks for coming to bizzit me! Guess what? We are neighbors–I live in San Francisco. We went back and readed the story of how you came to live with your People, and boaf the Human and me gotted a little leaky-eyed. We is very happy that you found such an excellent furever home! I was a feral boy and I am still pretty suspicious of the Humans, but I am friendlier now than the Human efur expected from the way I acted when I was just a little boy. Nice to meet you, Pretty Girl XOXO
Hey Spitty..how cool we live close…I am in Pleasant Hill in the East Bay…where are you if you don’t mind telling me?? And thank you so much for checking out my story through my past posts and stuff…I hope to see you in my comment queue as oftern as you have time…paw pats, Savannah
Excellent job looking out into and sniffing the night! Pretty soon you will be spending lots of time in front of doors and windows sniffing and looking at all the wonderful things that are outside both day and night!
yup! I try to…but getting catgone hot here now…Summer ya know…but they keep doors and such open to let cool air in and then I sniff like crazy!
You were very brave indeed! Especially with that thing outside!!

Oh what fun. Maybe it’s a flying thing? I love those bugs. They are fun to catch too if you are real fast.
when I click on your ‘link’ in this comment section I go to a sort’a porn site???? I don’t think that is who you are??? just thought I would tell ya…
Wow! You were really brave. Whee wouldn’t investigate but squeak for Mummy to deal with whatever it might be. I don’t know why people use the phrase “Scardy Cat”. The way I see it is whee far more ‘Scardy’ than you!

…MOL…we felines are actually catgone scared of lots of stuff…like just tonight…Dad had the ceiling fan on in the room where he feeds me…I saw that fan above my head and ducked low to the floor and slithered away hoping the fan would not catch me…sigh
I think you were SUPER BRAVE! You would have even been braver if you lived HERE…we have SKUNKS that come around at night and I don’t think you want to smell THOSE! That sure isn’t “stinky goodness!!”
ewwwww…nope…and we have skunks too, but they don’t come up on our deck…but the racoons do! And kittehs whose peeps let them out at night to become dinner for the coyote packs that lives in our open space area behind my house…
Hey Savvy, Jet here.
Me, Big Guy, wants to know if you have taken extra pilates classes lately? I totally respect your exquisite sense of sniffing at different levels; humans do not possess that sophistication in my experience!
BTW, Scooby Doo Academy gives life experience credits for sniffing journals. 🙂
really!!! wow! And ya, I have taken some extra pilates work…tryin’ to get my tummy tighter…my butt is doin’ pretty good! MOL
Hey Savvy, Jetty here.
Mom corrected me and said I should have asked if you were taking yoga classes, since your stretching abilities were most impressive in the post….
well, I guess Yoga would have fit better…but like, Mom doesn’t do that so she only knows some of the Pilates lingo…so that worked OK for us MOL
You are INCREDIBLY brave, Miss Savannah! 26 pawpumps from alla us! Pretty soon it will be moth season, we think you’re gonna love that. Crunchy.
uuuhhh….really!!…running downstairs….”Dad, Dad…could ya go outside tonight and get me somethin’…no,no..it won’t be hard…promise…paws crossed….”
Savannah we are amazed at your ability to not move your butt while checking out all of these night scents. You are very flexible. We enjoy taking in the nighttime air too!
Bella and DiDi
MOL was hoping someone would check out the cement butt…never moved! good upper body workout, huh?!
Yes, we’re going to try it out! 🙂
I always enjoy sniffing! There’s always so much to learn from a good sniff around.
Glad you enjoyed the smell of night !
Me too likes to sit and sniff in the window , day or night 🙂
Isn’t it just the best! I am trying to follow you but don’t get your posts yet…hmmm..will have my Mom get it worked out…paw pats, Savvy
Isn’t it great to smell the scents and listen to the different sounds!!! Almost better than the day time. I still don’t get your posts…I am so sorry…I am still trying to follow your blog…I luvluvluvd the photos of the catlympic training
Savannah, I’m so glad you can enjoy the smell of night. There are probably a few interesting sounds, too — little rustles and clicks. You know, there’s a lot out there in the night that we humans can’t see or hear, but you can!
the sounds were pretty cool too..but mostly it was my nose that was doin’ all the work…what a rush!
Savannah!!!! You´re a wonderful kitteh!!!
your are so kind…purrrs
Yes, that is darn brave! I am glad you did it though. Now then, go back for seconds!
YES! Thanks Brian…I wasn’t sure if anyone would realize how brave I had to be to even stay there for so long…I never ever moved my butt…but oh cat was my head and nose every movin’ MOL
