Savannah's Paw Tracks

Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

Monday Meowsie News…

And yes, I am definitely NOT in a great mood today…my San Francisco 49’rs lost the Super Bowl…bummer…BUT…there is always NEXT YEAR!! And both teams gave us a great game!

Now, let’s meow about my recovery progress…I have been doing some exploring in the last few days…not anything special to most of you…but to me…a really, really big deal…you see, I don’t “explore”…I don’t “snoop”…at least not when and where Mom and Dad can see me doing it.

…but Mom caught me relaxing on the guest bed…I don’t go in there hardly at all…

I don’t have evidence of a couple of my recent explorations…but here’s what I did…

First, we have a king size bed…and Mom and Dad recently hung a really pretty weaving above it…I didn’t notice until a few days ago.  Mom was still sitting in bed, reading my furriends’ blog posts to me…and all of a sudden…I looked up above the headboard on the bed…and thought “WHOA”!!!  What is that???

I marched right over to Dad’s pillows, got up on them and looked at that weaving…hmmmmm…there is this dark place behind it…wonder what’s up there???….so then I went around to his nightstand…climbed on top of his pillows…and used them to get my paws up on the headboard…and I hoisted myself up to take a good look at who or what might be up there under that weaving…

MOL!!! Mom was afraid I would try to jump up there…heh…heh

Next, yesterday, I finally noticed Mom’s nightstand has this interesting shelf under it…so I took a good look around…got on the shelf, checked out what was behind it.  I even poked my head through the wood bars and peeked up at Mom sitting in bed…winked at her…and then left…

You see…I don’t explore new things very much…so all of these explorations are about me getting more confident and trusting that nothing I do will be punished…kind of a great thing for this adult rescue shelter cat to learn….just sayin’…

…and finally…just a couple of days ago…I ran up onto my bird watching tower…I have not been up there since before the Christmas Tree arrived…and I did some checking out of a window sill…

That’s my Monday Meowsie News…

Purrlease be sure to come back tomorrow for my February Real Rescue Cats Are Talking…you aren’t gonna want to miss this well known ladycat…just sayin’…

Paw pats, Savannah

peeEss…purrlease forgive me for not visiting lots…Mom has a cold…and I am taking care of her

  1. Hi Savvy! Good for you with all the new exploring… have a lovely place to explore and I can tell from the “bed shots” that you have your tent set up on top of your Mom and Dad’s bed!!! YAY! The more relaxed and confident you get, the more exploring you’ll do……we’re ALL very proud of you!

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  2. Thank you for sharing, it made me feel all warm and gooey inside – well done you!

  3. Savvy, great site seeing of your place. Hope your mom is feeling better soon. So sweet of you to take care of your mom. You’re one of a kind 🙂

Oh, auntie Savvy, if I had one of those teleporter tunnels you have, I’d go explore with you. I love exploring! Almost as much as I love running. And maybe if we go together, you’d feel like an explorer?

  5. Continue to take care of Mom. So pleased you are getting more confident.

  6. Well, well…. Aren’t you just a regular Dora the Explorer!

Savannah–you are just like me! I hardly ever explore stuff–or I do it when the Human is not around to notice. She’s always shocked when I jump up onto some previously-ignored piece of furniture. Who knows? I am just a creature of habit I guess. For a kitty, I lack the curiosity gene 😉

Looking forward to that interview tomorrow!

    • Hiya Spitty, and yes, I too am a creature of habit and we are all just fine with that. Anything I do that is new is like gravy on the already much appreciated pile of Dad’s mashed potatoes MOL…and the interview is really really a good one, promise

  8. It’s great that you’re feeling braver. A little at a time. We can’t blame you for visiting that guest bed with all the sunshine on it. That looks cozy and warm!

  9. That’s such good news that you are adjusting more and more to your environment.

  10. I’m like Marco Polo. I explore everywhere and I don’t mind getting yelled at. Just today, I was scratching to get into Pop’s file cabinet and TW yelled at me. I’ll just have to keep trying.

Bummer about the 9ers. We actually turned the game off after Beyonce. Pop turned it back on later right before the 2 TDs. He said they shouldn’t have tried for 2 pts but at the time I disagreed. Later on, I realized that play lost them the game.

That is so awesome that you are encouraged to explore, Savannah – sometimes my human thinks the three of us here explore TOO much!

  12. Glad you’re feeling brave. Take care of your mom.

  13. You are brave , smart, and courageous, S. Exploring is fun! Take good care of your mom. xo

    Love and licks,

Good for you Savannah! Exploring is fun but having a home where no one get mad when you look about is the bestest. It’s hard to trust these human we have now because of the humans that came before . Learning to trust is , hopefully, two steps forward, one step back. I lived in my forever home 4 years before anyone saw me explore the upstairs. Even then it was a quick look and a dash back down to my HuMom. Now, I go up and get treats from the grandmother just like all the boy cats do. O.K., maybe I give them a little hiss if they get to pushy, but I don’t run. So anyway, congratulations on your bravery. I’m very proud of you.
    Purring you on,
    Mistletoe & Hitch

    • Hi Austin, I just found this comment in my spam file, so, so sorry…and you will be first to know…today, Wednesday, Mom picked me up, held me tight for a few moments and sat in a chair to rest me on her lap. Then I struggles kind a hard, so she very gently let me hop down…and I let her follow me, I talked to her, and I flopped down so she could pet me AND my tummy…even after she picked me up!!! PROGRESS!!! Oh and she gave me a treat snack and I nommed it all up!!!!!

  19. Wow, you have been a busy girl there! It’s nice to see you snooping around, and I think you will really be enjoying that window sill when the weather gets warmer!

  20. Well it’s easy to see what the draw was on that guest bed! What a huge wonderful sun puddle it gets! Awesome for naps! I say it’s not a guest bed, but it’s Savannah’s Sun Nap Bed!
That window sill is awesome too! Great for walking and watching birds and squirrels!
It’s wonderful to see you exploring and finding new things and places! A curious cat is a cute cat!! Hugs and snuggles!

I think that guest bed is a great place for exploring… or nappin’. Looks like you’ve got some prime sun puddles there!

  22. Oh exploring is so much fun. I’m so happy you are finally getting the hang of it. As long as you are in your house, you are safe. Hope your mom gets better soon.

  23. I’ m glad you are getting to be such an adventurer, you will enjoy finding new places to sit so much.

  24. Your Mom got some really great pictures of you looking out from the window sill! We’re love how you are getting more confident with each passing day. 🙂

  25. Sorry your team lost, but great exploring there Savvy. It’s all about baby steps. I was brave this weekend and waded in a stream (me, who hates water!) maybe your bravery is rubbing off on me:-)
Hope your mummy feels better soon xxx

  26. Maybe it was my fault, that your team lost – we would cheer your team last night, but sadly we were fallen a sleep (it starts 1PM our time). I like your acrobatics or catrobatics? – I think only a kitty could be so agile -imagine I would try this…hmm or maybe better not ;o)

  27. Those Niners sure didn’t have their mojo on, that’s fur sure. I’m glad you’re finding all these new places to check out and, of course, you found the perfect sun spot in the guest room.

Pee Ess: I do like that cat tree and there’s even a spot for me!

  28. Oh Savannah, I can’t tell you how proud I am. Exploring like that is a huge step forward. Well done!!!

  29. WOw love the tree scratching post x
