Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

Thursday Purrsday…

I didn’t have full use of Mom’s brain or her fingers today…she had a little quick procedure, like she does once a year, to get her lower back some help. So she was not totally with it today…na’mean??

So we had a little chat in bed this afternoon…and we both decide I just can’t pass on doing a little short something for Pepi Smart Dog’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

My first thankful is for the marvelous song Miss Cat Forsley wrote, just for ME! Last year just about this time…in case you missed it….here it is again…

…some of you may not know but December 9th marks the date, in 2011, that Mom Linda and Dad Peter brought me home to foster me…I was a very very scared, timid cat. I did not even know how to play and did not trust people at all.

…I thought you might enjoy seeing some photos of things that gave me so much pleasure and courage in my first weeks and then couple of months in what became my furrever castle…

…these are mostly from my first few weeks…(hover over photo to see captions or click on one to view as slideshow with captions)

…then some over next couple of months…remember…Mom and Dad were told when they took me to foster…”you don’t need any toys for Savannah, she never plays...”

You can click HERE or on the BADGE to go join and to meet some new furriends…and you have ALL week to add your fave post.

Hope your Mom is feeling better. Hugs to her and your dad for giving you a forever home. We are glad that you are getting over your shyness. We liked your song by Cat Forsley. Love, Cali, Andy, Tater and Shelly (C.A.T.S)

  7. Savvy
We think that was the best Foster fail we heard of!

  8. Give that Mom a hug from all of us sweet Savannah.

  9. Savvy, we love that you’ve come such a long way since your Mom and Dad gotcha’d you. πŸ™‚ As for “not playing,” we know how that goes. Everyone at the shelter is surprised when they hear that Gracie and Zoe love to play and run around. They didn’t do a whole lot of that when they were at the shelter. Big hugs, and happy Gotcha Week to you.

savvy…it’s OK if you do not like to be picked up or jump into someone’s lap…lot’s of us are like that…I turned ten this year and the number of times I’ve been picked up is: 2 …and the number of laps I’ve jumped in is… none….and I was adopted at 8 weeks and have lived in my for evers home ever since….brother boomer will not allow anyone to pick him up; though it’s because of his spine and he turned 14 this year….then there’s cousin tuna who weighs 85 pounds and a purrson would be silly to pick him up !! πŸ™‚

    • aiiee! 85 lb cat!!! Holy Ceiling Cat! and I think this is Dai$y talkin’ to me??? If you mention boomer and Tuna…right? thank you for telling me this…it means more than you can imagine. You will know why tomorrow, Friday Frolics

  12. Hi BFGF. Love your Christmas header. Just like you when I first came home, I’d lhang close to Pop and follow him around the house but no one could touch me. I didn’t play or trust anyone. I’ve come a long way but in 8 years, I haven’t come nearly as far as you have in 2 years. Gotta keep it real and show the peeps whose boss.

  13. Hey, nearly TWO WHOLE years! Hasn’t that flown past. Hope Mom’s back feels better or she at least enjoys the medication πŸ˜‰

  14. A lot of healing power for your mom. Imagine how much things happened since 2011. So much adventures and so much good things. I’m so proud of you and I’m happy you found the best furrever furmily ever.

  15. Heathcliff sends you a BIIIIIIIIG kiss!

You have come so very far, Miss Savannah. Your Mom and Dad should be very proud of you and the work they’ve done to make the three of you a unit.

  19. I’m so proud of you Savvy…you’ve been a very brave young lady on your whole journey from the shelter to now… trusted your Mom and Dad and they didn’t lead you to anything but a full life, love, and fun. Looking back, it’s been quite a journey but you’ve done it all with grace my friend. Everyone is proud of you – you should be proud of yourself too!

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  20. I love looking back and seeing how far you have come! I hope there are special plans for your big day?!

  21. It’s so good to see how far you have come, Savvy! So sad to think that they didn’t think you would need toys for fostering because you didn’t play. They just didn’t know what was in your heart.

  22. Me too is thankful for that you came to your grrreat home !
I see that you where Gotchad on my dad-persons Birthday πŸ™‚

  23. You have come SUCH a long way, Savannah! Unlike you, Boodie was playful from the start – it was the only way my human could bond with her initially. Now she can pick her up and hang her upside down… not that she does that very often, MOL!

  24. same story here – a shy cat that hid for the better part of the first weeks, that rubbed itself on chair legs and cupboards and doors and got friendly with the tom – but fled my presence and hid, whenever I was in the same room.

And then she slowly approached me, allowed me to touch her tail, after two months graciously accepted some toys (just saw to black paws, drawing the cuddle teddybear nearer and nearer under the cover, she was hiding under) …

After seven months we learned cuddles mean extra treats and rubbing at the human hand is not that bad.

And this morning, I looked at my lap, next to which lay a not shy, purring furrball, that prodded me with its nose and begged for treats. And cuddles.

I wish more people had the patience – so they could get this reward!

    • Thank you for telling me this. Mom and I hope one day she can pick me up and that I will climb into her lap. We are tied at our heart strings.

      • No picking up here – which gets a bit difficult when it’s time for the annual vet visit …
I just shared my cat’s story, to prove that even the shy ones should not be given up and have a chance of adapting – the more cases are known, the more people might try a shyer cat that is in the shelter for a long time already. My cat was a year in the shelter, when I adopted her out.

  25. Savvy whee know that you have come so far and whee know that it gives us the warm fuzzies to think about it! Whee are really enjoying seeing you progress step by step, little by little and becoming a more confident little kitty!

    Nacho, Noah, Buddy & Basil

  26. Savvy you have come such a long way…people can easily give up on a kitty with some issues..but mum and dad must have known from the get go you had pawtential!! I am so happy you are a success story..i saw too many kitties who just didn’t ever get there..too scarred, too damaged and sadly too late….but the ones that we saw blossom and grow ..well…hearts full of joy πŸ™‚ The lady who was in charge of the Cat part of the shelter spent night after night with one particular Burmese ..after the shelter closed for the evenings..she just sat outside the kitties cage and read, talked, dozed…this went on for months…this beautiful Burmese was battle scarred from humans, and would not even look at her she became the love of her life and they live together with other rescue “hard cases” happily together..hope a powerful thing.
Have a brilliant day and hugs to you and Mum and Dad Fozziemum xxxx

    • Oh miss Bev…thank you so much for your support. I still have a long road ahead. I am afraid of other cats, and noises that sound like someone is blowing bubbles…I run away terrified. Still can’t be picked up nor get in a lap…sigh…maybe one day, maybe one day…paw hugs, Savvu

      • Savvy you will get there…Dinnermntz can’t be held for any period longer than abour ten seconds..due to me having to dose her up so much with meds when she was my foster kitten..she thinks being picked up means getting a pill popped down her throat..she will smooch next to me and on me if I lie down but is not a cat who will jump up on my lap..i am surprised that Pickles is as loving and smooch as she is after the conditions I found her in..i guess like people kitties have to work out their issues in their own way..keep on with it Savvy you are winning!! HUgs and loves Miss Bev xxx

Waving paw...HI!...what'd 'cha think...??
