Do You Have Special Spots for Pets?

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I don’t know about all of you. Whether you are woofies or kitties, but I do know that I, Savannah the Cat, have some very special spots I reserve for the ultimate joy of being pet.

Mom L attended a session at Blog Paws in Arizona where one of the presenters, a Vet, talked about a special “pressure point” on a cat’s head. He said that when he greets a new patient he is always aware of this pressure point and tries to calm the kitty by applying the most gentle pressure on that spot.

I guess Mom L already figured out that “special pressure point” on me in our first months together. And now she knows I will hang out with her anytime she manages to hit that mark!

*sigh* Life is good—I can't imagine it getting better

*sigh* Life is good—I can’t imagine it getting better

And then Mom L reaches over and HITS THE MARK!!

Oh golly gee! that's just the spot!

Oh golly gee! that’s just the spot!

That is just the spot that Blog Paws presenter talked about. Right in the middle of a cat’s forehead, just a bit below the “between the ears” mark. MARVELOUS!!

And then Mom L has learned that I like another special spot moved just a bit to the right, and left, to hit just above each eye…

That's just the SPOT!!

That’s just the SPOT!!

What spots do you have that touch your special relaxation. Woofies and kitties please tell me. I think this big  dealio about “special pressure points” to chill’ax us is very important—especially when we are on a visit to places like the *shudder* Vet!

Courageous Momma Kat #mommakatssearch

HIYA!  SAVANNAH HERE!!—My Sunday Selfie Mystery Guest revealed.

Momma Kat had five kittens to care for and feed and yet she herself had not been out to find food for days. She took a chance, stashed her kittens in protective shrubs and quickly left to find something to eat. It was almost night.

Not a good day for Momma Kat, the food was across the street, a very busy street.

The car hit her on the head and she was tossed to the side of the street, likely left for dead as no one bothered to stop and check on her. The only good thing to come out of this was that she wasn’t left in the middle of the street where other cars would keep hitting her.

She pulled herself up from the curb and started her painful journey home to her five kittens. She must have been in such pain as her head and jaw took the impact.

Momma Kat could not make it all the way back to her kittens. She finally dropped to the cement and closed her eyes. The humans living in the house found her in their driveway and called the county municipal animal services to report a severely injured cat, she was shivering and clearly still bleeding. Thankfully Officer John, from Contra Cost Animal Services (CCAS),  arrived soon and he quickly did a visual review of her injured body. Officer John saw that Momma Kat was lactating, her nipples fully engorged. SHE HAD BABIES!!

Officer John made sure Momma Kat was stable and then went on a fast search of the yard. There, in the shrubs, where Momma Kat had secured her kittens, he found all five of them—only two to three weeks old. Officer John transported the little family and off they went to our county shelter’s medical staff for care.

Momma kat was assessed as having a broken jaw, heavily congested and she was administered antibiotics and pain meds until full assessment the next morning. She and her kittens were reunited and she immediately took them under her paws and drew them toward her to nurse. Momma Kat was on duty.

The next day, Momma Kat was assessed to have mandibular fractures. This injury was beyond what the medical staff could easily deal. And yet, she had five kittens to nurse and care for and raise to be happy adoptable kittens.

Momma Kat still had injuries that were causing difficulty for her to eat for her own strength. But, she never wavered in caring for and feeding her kittens.

Fortunately for Momma Kat and her kittens, Bright Haven contacted the county shelter to ask if they needed help with a Mom Kat and babies with at least one member in the furramily with special needs, as they had a foster open!!

Momma Kat and her five kittens were transported to a Bright Haven sanctioned vet, Dr Chahal from Ace Animal Hospital in Fremont, California, where Momma Kat underwent surgery. Once again, she immediately returned to caring of her kittens once she was fully recovered from the anesthetic. She had three wires holding her fractured mandible together.

Momma Kat and her five kittens had a loving foster home waiting just for them. Foster Dad Devin was ready and willing to take on this Momma Kat and all her kittens.

Where's my kitten milk??!!

Where’s my kitten milk??!!

And of course, Momma Kat made sure she and her kittens had everything needed to help her brood thrive—food, water, kitten milk and a suite of their very own.

If kitten milk mustaches give you a giggle, then the next video is a MUST! Giggle away!!

And as “Mini-Me”, Momma Kat’s kitten who is a tuxedo just like her, shows us. No kitten can ever have too many toys.

Recently Momma Kat went into surgery to remove two of the wires; the third remains, both for stability and because it would have caused too much trauma to remove it. And as usual, once she was fully out of the anesthetic, she chirped and mewed until all her kittens came close to once again nurse. Momma Kat is a proud cat mom.

Through it all Momma Kat has remained devoted to the kittens.  Momma Kat is a courageous and loving mom, and now she desperately needs our support.

It is time for Momma Kat and all the kittens to be spayed and neutered in two weeks. The kittens AND MOMMA KAT will be ready for adoption in three weeks.

The kittens will have a tough time as all but one are completely black. Even if we all know black cats ROCK, the public isn’t always so welcoming of that color fur. And Momma Kat is a two year old adult, her challenge to reach out so that her future family can find her is now my challenge. And, I hope that all of you who read this  will agree that Courageous Momma Kat DESERVES THE BEST HOME EVER! Forever safe from speeding cars, always loved herself  with plenty of good healthy food and well, just everything she deserves.

One Thousand Posts and Counting

HIYA! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Oh My Cat!! Who would have EVER thought I would be posting my ONE THOUSANDTH BLOG POST!! Certainly not me and totally NOT Mom Linda!! (aka Mom L)

We started with very humble intentions of sharing with volunteers about my life after Contra Costa Humane Society’s Kitty Corner. Kitty Corner is a free roaming, private, no kill shelter for adult and special need cats pulled from my local municipal shelter. And yes, they also take in kittens from the shelter during “kitten season”. But their focus is on adult cats—like me.

Mom started taking my dictation around the  second week I was with her and Dad P, which was December 9, 2011. Here is the first letter I sent to my former roomies and caretakers. I was with Mom and Dad for about twelve days. Mom thought it would be fun to have me send a note back to my roomies and let them know how great I was doing in foster care.

I think this was probably my fifth blog post. I was just learning how to communicate my messages to Mom L, ‘cuz as you know, she has those silly thumbs! 12/21/2011

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO MY ROOMIES AT KITTY CORNER

FROM SAVANNAH

Me trying to look relaxed

Me trying to look relaxed

Hi Guys! Just wanted to let you know how I am doing with my Foster Mom (FM) and Foster Dad (FD).  They are so cute! They just wait on me hand and foot, no kidding, really—who knew!!  I share their, well, I guess now “our”, master bedroom and bath—and they let me roam the whole house, even up stairs now. Pretty cool, huh?

Just hangin' out on FM's toes

Just hangin’ out on FM’s toes

So, here’s what I am up to. You can see me in the photo above, just relaxing, sitting on FM’s toes—yes my butt is on her feet.  Warm. I had just been playing with my new catnip toy, running around and amusing her—she likes that. I also have a scratching post, actually two—one down stairs and one up stairs—crazy huh? They just love spoiling me!! Anyways, I hide out under their, oops, I mean our, bed most of the day.  But I come out, entertain them, let them pet me lots and I go exploring around when they are not watching—love those birds on their our deck.

His footisies are warm

His footisies are warm

One thing I learned about myself, and its kind’a embarrassing—I am afraid of my FD—not him personally—just that he is a “guy”.  I am warming up to him—he is really kind and talks gushy to me—such a cutie he is. Above you can see a photo of me with him, and yes, I am sitting on his toes too. I don’t know what it is; I just like having my butt resting on someone’s feet.  Go figure.

So I really am finding I like to be petted, and then I can’t stop myself, I just start purring!  I love when FM pets me all the way out to the tip of my tail.  She sometimes just pets my tail and holds it—really nice, I like that.  FM and I have been working on my waistline—I know—some of you were too nice to say, but I was getting a bit pudgy.  So we have this routine to help my gluts get tighter which slims down my waist a bit.  She starts her pet at my head and when she get to my back-end, I lift my butt all the way off the floor, then she starts again, while I lower, then we repeat it 5 times for  two sets. Whew!! It is tiring, but I am looooookking gooood—woo hoo! (2016,I realized this is a condition known as EB, or elevator butt.)

Who knew "clean" could be so tiring???

Who knew “clean” could be so tiring???

Well, just a couple of more things and then I have to run—I am really very busy these days, not like I was when I was hanging out at KC.  Really, you guys just would not believe it is me and only a week away so far. Now,above you see me just crashed on our bed. This was cleaning day—some stranger shows up and cleans the house—scary! So when she left, FD and FM found me crashed on the bed.  I was exhausted from being on guard. I let them get in bed with me, but I never moved. FM uses her electric blanket—LOVE THAT!  So I stayed close to her all night.  Well, gotta go now, catch ya all later, Savannah

Here is a whole bunch of photos of Mom L’s cherished photos of my first year and the next three years with her and Dad P.
