The Letters Make Words! It’s A Blog Hop

Hey It’s Jet, Savannah and Texas Here.

By now, you probably figured out that Texas, Savannah and I have put our collective fur together, (ok, our Moms helped, too), to make the Vocabulary Building Project an official Blog Hop!

We enjoyed giving you hints all week: click here for Jet’s post, here for Texas’ post and here for my post in case you missed them..

How did we begin? Texas and Savannah turn to Jet…you better tell this part, Jet…

Oh, Ok…Jet Here… let me tell you how Mom and I started this a long time ago on our blog:

Mom’s Papa always asked his children and grandchildren to keep pen and paper beside their beds so when they read their books and came upon an unknown word they could jot it down to look up later. When the family got together they played lots of vocabulary building games. So, when Mom and I began blogging, she wanted to avoid word ruts.

Last spring, Mom inquired whether Savannah and Miss Linda might like to collaborate (VBP) on making VBP a hop… Savannah and Miss Linda introduced us to Texas and Miss Carine creating the VBP Planning Committee.

We’ve been working diligently (VBP) ever since! Miss Ann, Zoey and Maggie from Zoolatry created a pawsome badge, which Miss Carine did really high tech thingies to! Check out Zoey, Prop Mistress extraordinaire, helping with badge arrangements.

First, she made sure the dictionary was sitting properly (VBP) on the table… (notice it is our very special dictionary with all our initials on it)…

Then she had to hop up to make sure it was going to stay straight for the photo shoot and she wanted to see if she could get the bookmark stuck in too…

Great job Zoey, thanks for the help!… as you can see, our VBP Badge is pawfect!

So let’s all talk about what to do now…

How to pawticipate

The Vocab Building Project, or VBP, is a blog hop that invites you to

learn new vocabulary and how to use it,

have fun in the process, using new words in a weekly blog post,

discover new blogs and make new friends.

What do you have to do? It is very simple.

  1. Every Thursday, Jet, Savannah, and Texas will write a blog post containing 2 to 3 words or expressions that are not often used in their blog posts (see examples here, here, and here),
  2. If you decide to join us in the fun, you have one week (you can pick any day you wish, from Thursday to the next Wednesday, that’s how flexible this blog hop is!) to write a blog post containing 2 to 3 words or expressions that you do not use often – it does not have to be the same as the hosts’, this is your choice,
  3. Pick one of the following badges by copying its code below (select the text in the box, right-click on selected code and copy), paste the code in your post (you have to paste it in the Text/HTML section when you write your post), write your post and don’t forget to add (VBP) after each new word you are using. We strongly suggest you only use 2-3 just to keep it easy and interesting,
  4. When your post is online, enter its URL/permalink by clicking on the Inlinkz image that you will find at the bottom of our Thursday VBP post,
  5. The following Thursday, at the end of our VBP posts, we will link to all the participating blogs, so that we can all visit participating blogs.

Any question? Leave a comment below and we will get back to you as soon as pawsible!

  8. What a great idea. I’m not great at Blog hops but will try to join in xx

    • I am not either, and WP makes it a bit more complicated. I learned from Miss Lori, Jetty’s Mom…first do your regular post, then publish it. Next go copy the code under my badge, or Jetty’s or Texas, then go back to edit your published post, but get into TEXT mode, not VISUAL. Scroll to the very bottom, paste the code, look to the right of admin screen, click “check preview” before hitting “update”…you ought to see what it looks like. DO NOT VIEW UPDATE IN VISUAL…it will screw up the code (learned the hard way). Then just go to one of our THursday posts, click the little InLinkz froggy, and enter your post. That should do it. I just did it this moring for my FRiday post. Let me know if that helps, if not, I will get more info, paw pats, Savvy

  9. Wonderful project!

  10. great idea Savannah:)

  11. First of all, I’d like to apologize cos TW never got back to your Mom about this project. She put it on the back burner and it must’ve burnt up. Occasionally, I’ll use a Sunday Word—that’s what the peeps call ’em—and think of you. You got a great badge—better than TW could’ve ever done. Concats on the Blog Hop. I hope it takes off. BTW, @PepiSmartDog’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop is also on Thursday.

    • yes, we did think of that as Jetty always pawticipates, but we think we can do BOTH. Change is always possible. We have had so many challenges within WP for the blog link. ANd just FYI, Jetty’s Mom is not doing so great so we also have one team member down and out for now…sigh

  12. This is a great idea Savvy! We plan on participating regularly.

    RA

    • Love you RA…and go to my post for Friday, I have passed an award to you which I think you will like. WE know some have fount the instructions confusing, but thank that to word press partly, will try to clear up over weekend. paw hugs, Savvy

Savannah Darling, our little heads are spinning on our necks just like the Exorcist. We think this sounds like fun (specially cuz the Human is an English teacher) but we don’t understand the following points:

    1. So the badge code goes NOT on the sidebar but in the text of the post we write?

    2. When we finish & publish our post, we copy the URL line (for that particular post) and copy and paste it on the “Inlinkz” image that would be on your post from the previous Thursday?

We hate to be so ::shhhhhhhh:: stoopid, but we’ve never done a BlogHop. We want to play this though if we can figure out how 😉

    • MOL! I don’t do hops hardly at all either Spitty and here I am helping host one! So I had to have special tutorials from Texas and Jetty and their Moms. MOL. I know you will like doing it once you figure out how easy it is and you have like 6 days to pick from, then we just start over every Thursday. I really like that part. ANd I can actually do the thankful Thurs blog hop AND our VBP hop by just using a VBP word in my thankful post and then post both badges!!! talk about double dipping!!

  26. I’ll keep learning (VBP) wait, I already knew that word.
Savannah, I cannot thing of a pretentious (VBP) word. I just did, my job for today is done.

    • yea Doggy! You did it with “pretentious”…doesn’t have to be a word you don’t know, just one you wouldn’t necessarily use in your chosen writing style. But,ummmm…errrr…ahem…Doggy, you like…well…you use lots of different kinds of words…so this will be a good challenge for you…as long as you don’t allow doubt to creep in….heh…heh

  28. Great idea and the badges are pretty cool!!! I’m searching for my thinking-cap ;o)

    • quick, I think I saw your Dad wearing it…don’t let him wear that thinking cap outside, he will lose it for sure!! We like our badges lots, try moving your cursor over the large badge in the post, and when it is over me, you can click and go to my blog, then over Texas, click to his nad over Jetty and go tohis!! Texas’ Mom did that!!!

  29. Love this. Such a clever idea. Looking forward to learning all sorts of new words.

  30. Very interesting project guys…..Mom’s not sure her brain is functioning at a high enough level to help me pawticipate but we’ll see what we can do!!!

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

    • well given your Mom’s profession, words won’t be hard for you Sammy! It is easy in as far as “what” to do…just use a couple of words in a post that you would not ordinarily use as part of the “voice or vernacular” you have created for your personality…and then put (VBP) next to those words, then grab the badge code from one of our blog side bars. First, because you use WP like me, you need to publish your post, then go back to ‘edit’, go to ‘text’, not visual, mode, scroll to end of your published post and paste in the badge code. Then preview WHILE STILL IN TEXT MODE. If it looks ok, update. Then just go back to one of our thursday posts, click the little blue froggy and enter your post’s URL and bingo, you are done. Let me know if that helps or hinders. paw hugs, Savannah

  31. Hmmm, M said we’re going to have to use our brains again., Hope they haven’t turned to MUSH. he he

  32. Well as I am a logophile (VBP) I think this might be right up my street!! Will go and cogitate on it !!!

    • Oh hey Austin, you are soooooo gonna luvluvluv this!!! I just know it. Be sure you put your post into our blog hop linky tool once it is published, no matter what day you publish it during the week, you have to go back to one of our Thurs posts to use the linky tool. paw pats, Savvy

  33. What a fab idea!!

  34. It looks like a great project, I like the pictures too 🙂 I have to read the manual later again, because now I came to bring you my nomination of the Shine On award. See you later 🙂

  35. I will probably pawticipate sporadically (VBP)!!

    • pawsome Clowie…and you have it totally perfectamente (VBP)…you can do it on ANY day, I know you only post on Wednesdays, but whenever you feel like it that will be great. I am going to be using a small “paw” print that Texas’ Mom made instead of always putting VBP, I will have it in my widgets on side bar and I will put a doggie paw print there too if you want to just insert that into your media library and use it next to your special word whenever you pawticipate. thank you, Savannah

      • Ooh! I like the idea of a paw print!

        • ok, let me get my widgets up in my side bar, then I am off for a nap. Mom Linda had epidural injection in lumbar area of back late yesterday and had awful night sleeping, so in need of a nap. hugs, Savvy and Mom Linda

        • ok, right under my VBP Badge with the code for putting the badge on your VBP post when you do it, just below is a paw print, I am just inserting this as ‘media’ right next to the word which is for VBP I like it better than always putting the “(VBP)” we have been doing. The paw print is for a cat, Texas’ Mom made one special for JEtty cuz he is a dog and bigger, I will put that one up latter. Too tired to do it right now, so kindly borrow my cat print purrlease, hugs Savvy

          • I hope your mom feels better soon. Encourage her to rest if that’s what she needs.
There’s no hurry for a paw print for me, the cat one will be just fine – I probably won’t be pawticipating for a few weeks yet.
I think the paw prints are a great idea – it’s clear for the people who want to be involved, it’s the anipal version of an asterisk or small number in the text for a note to look at.

  36. Hmmm I shall have to think about this on Savvy!xx Speedy
