Autobiography of a Former Shelter Cat

They Thought I Won’t Jump!!

Hiya! Savannah Here!!

You know humans, right??  They don’t seem to get it that when they aren’t home, we do stuff differently than when they are…right???  Isn’t that true for all of you?  Cats and Dogs??

I bet’cha it is true!…I know all of guys are NOT the purrfect little cats and dogs you try to pretend to be…I read your blogs…I know!

Mom and Dad always lament (vocab builder project VBP) that I don’t seem to care much for heights…I don’t get on counters (well, there was that one time Mom caught me)…I don’t get on the table ( well, once)…anyway…I don’t usually “JUMP” up on stuff…so they think…heh heh…

Well, Auntie Shannon, remember she runs the HOOVER here AND she stays with me when Mom and Dad have their get-aways…anywho…Auntie Shannon let it slip that she and I have this really cool arrangement for when she stays here.

Auntie Shannon leaves the bedroom window open, with the shutter opened too…and I jump…yes…I said I “JUMP” from the floor to the window sill for a little fresh air and a look-see from a different perspective (VBP) than I get from looking out the slider doors when they are open.

Mom said “NO WAY!!…not my baby girl Nana!!…she would never jump up like that”…and Auntie Shannon said “WAY!!…yes she does!!…open that window and leave the shutter open and just you wait and see…”

Yup..you got it right!  That is exactly what Mom has done…and of course she has been “waiting to see” with her FLASH and CLICK in her hand…literally night and day!

So, she got me…in the act…

…yup…it’s open alrighty…

…lemme just use my Ground Hog sit move to look higher…make sure the sill is clear…

…OK…just one or two more things to check out…

…made it!!!…yup…that’s the floor down there…and me up here…

…ahhh…I just luvluvluv the perspective this gives me of Mom’s chest of drawers….hmmm…wonder how far that jump would be???…

…nope, nope..focus…this is good for now…smell that air…ahhhhhh….

…Wow…the jacuzzi is sure quiet…wonder if there are any stars out tonight…

…well…guess I better get down…Mom probably needs me over in bed with her now…

And that’s what I have been doing for months now…when Mom and Dad are gone…Auntie Shannon and I have this deal…she likes the shutter open at night…and I like to sit and look at the stars from the window sill…cool, huh?

Now Mom and Dad know what to do too…so I get my way…SCORE ANOTHER ONE FOR SAVANNAH…Clowie will be proud of the way I am training my bipeds…she is my role model for biped Training 101…

Hope all of you are still working your own biped training…we have to keep them on their toes…so make sure you never do the same thing all the time…give them something different when they least expect it…hmmmmm…wish I could operate that FLASH and CLICK to capture the looks on their faces…MOL

  2. Well you know what they say, Savannah… When the peeps are away, the cats PLAY! ; ) I’m like you. I don’t counter surf…just that one time and I got busted big time. I never go on the table. But I have my secret spots and they’ll NEVER know!
    : ) Katie

    • I don’t do any of it at all often…I have only just started to explore more of my home and I have been here since last Dec. I pretty much stayed in our bedroom, and upstairs in my office with Mom. paw pats, Savannah

  4. Hey Savvy, Big Guy here.

Oh the stories we could tell, Savvy.

You rock… fresh air, new perspective… you go girl!

As to training bipeds, let’s just say Mom wakes up at 5 a.m. sans alarm clock as opposed to her preferred 7 a.m. since I arrived at Casa Jet!

  5. I wish our bedroom windowsill was big eough for me to fit on, I like the look of that! Good work on the human training Savvy 🙂

  6. Hi Savannah! Looks like yet another new experience for you – window watching is great fun – especially at night………BRAVO! Next up – jumping over to the dresser?????

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  7. The not so secret any more life of Miss Savannah! Looking out of windows and sniffing the air is one of the most important parts of any cats life. Enjoy it much and often 😉

  8. Wish I would be a cat. My jump on the window will be honored with grids in front of all windows…it lacks only a orange overal …. ahhh Savannah I envy you :o)

  9. Way to go Savannah, gotta keep our hu’parents on their toes. If only they knew half the stuff we get up to when they are not around. Mine keep threatening to set up the webcam again!! Hmmm best keep working on keeping that out of order 😉
    Khumbu

    • KHMUBU!!! I love it when you visit!!! I have not been to FB for days…but I don’t get emails to tell me you have put anything up…so not sure if you do FB regularly??? Anyway, I miss all my Siberian Twitter pals, I seem to have been cut off from your conversations…they don’t show in my Twitter stream…just cats! weird…I tried to unfollow and then follow again…but nothing changed. Bummer…paw hugs, Savannah

  10. Element of surprise you go girlfriend xxxx Archie

    • Hey Archie!! I feel so great about my surprises for Dad and Mom…and they like them too…I just keep on doing stuff that is new more and more…’cept they still can’t pick me up…I struggle so hard and use my claws and run like the wind…sigh…

  11. Hehehe! Well, my hoomans are away at the moment so I can get up to all of the mischief I’ve been waiting to do for a looong time! I definatly don’t behave the same when mummeh’s here as I do when she isn’t >=)

You know what, my sweet? I am a low-to-the-ground kitty also, except for the top level of my tower from whence I survey my kingdom. And, oh–don’t worry about my forgiving the Human anytime soon. I am really making her sweat over this. I mean, the outrage that has been perpetrated upon me cannot simply be forgotten in a day, or a week. Or a month. Or a YEAR. Just sayin’.

    • I am so relieved to know that I am not the only low to the ground cat…and the highest I go is also my Bird Watching Tower…so you and I are very much alike Spitty…and we live in this wonderful place called the SF bay area…how cool is that??? paw hugs, Savvy

  13. Harrooo Savannah! Those are some pretty nice action shots there! Windows are nice to sit in hu?? The front window is a fav around here too! Be well girl!

    RA

    • oh, how does a Husky get in on a window sill??? Just curious! And I am so happy to have you and Khumbu drop by my blog…I can’t seem to communicate with you on Twitter or jump in when you guys are yakking up a storm…I don’t see any dogs…what the heck did Twitter do to me??? hmmmm…maybe it was the #wlf???…I must check into that..paw hugs, Savvy

  14. Well, you are lucky. I was sitting on the bathroom sill, when I got too excited and jumped right through the screen and off I went on my 4-hour adventure. Now Mom doesn’t open the windows too far and she closes the bathroom door completely! That’s what I get!

    • OH CAT!!!…I am fortunate that Dad had very extra strong screens put in all the window screens and slider door screens so that their ‘before me’ cats could not break them. They all likes to sit in window sill…I am just trying it out and like it lots…hope you were OK…paw pats, Savannah

      • I was ok…it was Mom that had a tizzy fit, but you know how humans can be. *wink*

BTW, I just love your blog!

        • oh dear, so glad you were OK…Mom kept waking up last night fearful that I would somehow manage to push the screen off and fall outside and our window is on a second story…I have a feeling I may not get it open as much now…shaking head with disappointment…

          • Uh oh! I’m sorry if I blew it for you! I should tell her that I was a brat back then, always wanting to go outside. Not so, anymore. I know where my treats are!!! They are inside, not out!

          • oh yeah, well I don’t have any interest in going outside, so no worries there…and you really didn’t hurt my chances, Dad still leaves it open for me…I am his Princess after all…MOL

  15. Great tootorial, Savannah! We could use sum help on our biped training. What a great place to enjoy the stars. Enjoy!

  16. I tell you, those humans are just too easy to train!

  18. Very, very clever, Savvy! 🙂 Great photos, too!

  19. Mighty fine jumping Savannah! Hey, I gotta fess up, I’m even good when the humans are gone. My sisters are laughing for some reason.

Oh, you are doing a real good job training your bipeds sweet Savannah. We have to be real sneaky around here and train when the bipeds don’t realize they are being trained until they already are. lol Chancy does most of the training of them but us cats get some sneaky training in on him too. lol We love the pictures your mom captured of you and the window. Hugs and nose kisses

    • oh you guys!!! Isn’t biped training such fun!!??…we all should dedicate a day a month to “biped training tips”…ohhhh…I think that is a concept!!! paw pats, Savvy

    • Oh Pooh, I know we have to be so careful with the bipeds…their training is a very delicate matter…and I know that you and Chancy chat about it so that you can get maximum results…you guys outta do a book, no…seriously…I mean it…it would be a best seller…”Cat and Dog Collaborate To Train BiPeds”….I can already see you two on Good Morning American…then the WORLD….MOL…paw pats and hugs, Savvy

  24. We all jump Savvy. They should know that. I can walk all through the big room without my feet touching the floor. Of course you know by now that I have my peeps trained. I run a tight ship here.

    • ohhhh..I know you do CK…but I am still learning about biped training…and I was stuck in a cage for so long at the shelters, and so afraid of the other cats, I did not know I “was able/allowed” to jump…this is a new world for me…and I luv it…paw pats, Savvy

  25. Very cool trick, Savannah. We like to sit by an open door or window too. So what else do you do when Mom is away? We promise we won’t tell.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  26. Way to show ’em, Savvy!!!
    Play bows,
    Zim

  27. That’s really great! There’s really nothing better than sitting on the sill, enjoying the fresh cool air.

  28. Excellent work, Savannah! It always pays to keep the bipeds guessing. And you look very sweet sitting there.

  29. Grey cats can jump! MOL It’s funny, Leo, a huge kitty by all rights, would not, seemed could not, jump for the longest time! He still hesitates a little when he has/wants to jump. But he’s getting there! Glad you are too!

  30. I don’t doubt, Savvy, that you will learn to use the flash box before too long and boy, won’t we love the expressions on the bipeds faces 🙂

  31. Yay Savannah. Good for you to jump up there and done very well checking it all out before making the leap. Bet that fresh air is nice. Love the pictures. Have a great day.
