What happens in kitten season

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

So just WHAT does happen in a geographical location in the USA when “kitten season” gets going in full bloom so to speak?? My castle is in Northern California and our typical kitten season, when gobs of kittens are born by abandoned community cats, starts about late March or early April. It varies based on what your climate is.

Where is our Mom!

That said, I wanna talk about what happened this last 2019 kitten season and how my Paw It Forward effort, thanks to Mom L and Dad P and others, helped some kittens have a long awaited Happy Tails ending.

Our Project Delta View Cats (PDVC) efforts are very specific to our own city’s zip code and we only do “targeted” TNR (trap, neuter, return). We go door to door to find feeders who we can help by getting all their colony spayed, neutered and vaccinated. And, if they are friendly, we have a few adoption paths to help. That’s what this post is all about.

One of PDVC’s partners is our county animal services. Last year, 2019, they were chock full of kittens, moms with kittens in the shelter and the same but in foster families.

Along came PDVC with a Mom cats and between the two of them, 7 kittens. The shelter was impacted and asked that the feeders “foster and socialize in place”. And that had to be until at least another six to seven months!!!

But our partner, Contra Costa Animal Services, said once our “kitten season” was over, that we could allow our foster to bring those now almost adult kitties, into their adoption process.

And our “foster in place”, Miss Jessica, called PDVC this November searching for an adoption path for her remaining six now juvenile kitties.

This is a Happy Tails Ending!! All six were taken into the adoption path at our partner, CCAS. And everyone one was soon “pulled” by one of the CCAS Transfer Partners aka other rescues in our general location.  All six kitties have been adopted!! Here is their story told in their photos. I hope you will hang around and watch this short slideshow.

All six have now been adopted. They were very well socialized by their “foster in place” cat Mom but their challenge was getting to be able to be with different people. And that is a HUGE challenge for all cat foster families. The kitties must get socialized BEYOND the foster family to increase their ability for adoption.

Let me know in comments what you think about our “Foster in Place” kittens “Happy Tails” ending.

Danger! Danger! Shopping bag warning from TKS!!

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Aiieeee!!! Danger!! Danger!!! Who knew??  Certainly not Mom L or Dad P!!

We all know in my castle that all paper bags MUST have the paper handles cut so that NO KITTY can get hung up in those handles. I know you all know this, but just stick with me for the learning we all got just yesterday from none other than, you got it!!—the infamous TKS the extraordinaire “let it all hang out” cat!

Wow!! This is pretty cool!

So Dad P left about four grocery shopping, reusable bags, at the foot of our stairs. All folded neatly, no handles showing. And then Mom L came out of the kitchen about thirty minutes later to TKS IN A BAG!!

Whoa! I got this thing to stand up! Cool!!!

Yes, you got it. That bag was lying flat, no handles exposed. But the ever exploring TKS found a way to not only get that bag out of a pile of bags, but she also was able to paw it into standing upright!! Seriously!!

Amazing this thing is standing right up! Sweet!!

Mom L was busy in the kitchen and Dad P was in the garage. Then Mom L came around from the kitchen into the entry way and there was TKS!! IN THE BAG!!! (no pun intended)

Ok! You caught me!!

Mom L was horrified at the thought of what might have happened had TKS been frightened by her or Dad P or any kitty in my castle scaring TKS so that she might jump from that bag THROUGH a handle!!!

Ok!! Stop making this more than what it is—I just like this bag!!

And there you have it. TKS has perspective on what she was trying to do, which was have a bit of fun. However, Mom L and Dad P won’t ever leave another shopping bag with handles anywhere near where this kitty can get a paw on it.

And before anyone says this is comments—yes! My pawrents ALWAYS cut the bag handles. This grocery shopping bag was lying flat in a pile of four. But TKS managed to get it out, upright and take up residence.

Hope you are all having a marvelous Monday!! Got any shopping bag stories to share?? Leave a comment and a photo is even better!!

Katie struggles with choices

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I gotta tell you guys, that KK aka Katie is a crazypants silly kitty! Why she struggles to make up her mind what she wants to do with all that energy she has. What toy to play with first? What scratcher to use now? Who do I chase, Savvy or TKS? On and on her choices go.

She has a favorite cardboard scratcher lounge that Mom L got her when she first came to my castle in 2018. It is a bit of a wreck now but KK still loves it best, especially for her “posing place” and “napping place”.

Posing

And then there is her napping pose.

Zzzzzzzz

Now you know how much she adores her cardboard scratcher lounger thingy, right? So here is where a fun thing happened. KK just could not decide whether to enjoy her scratcher OR enjoy one of her other favorite toys, the tower of spinning balls!

Hey wait a minute! I’m not sure if I wanna stay on my scratcher or whap the balls!!

Then she just became more undecided.

Hmmm—I seem to be losing grip on my scratcher but just look at that ball whapper toy!!

Then she started to make a decision.

I’m gonna scratch!

Then she hesitated over that decision.

Oh gosh! I still think I wanna whap those balls

Until finally she combined both!

KK is such a silly dilly kittie and she amuses all of us with her indecision about which toy attracts her the most. Do you ever have trouble deciding which of your toys you like best? Let’s hear from you in comments purrlease!
