Foster Kittens Update!

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

You may all remember my blog post about Snipping A Budding Cat Colony. That was my first introduction of the two, and eventually the three kittens, who became our fosters.

The beginning of our foster experience started with Mom L and Dad P offering to help the caretakers of the Snipped Budding Cat Colony. Next thing TKS and I knew Mom L was bringing the two five-month-old boy cats into MY CASTLE!!

I had to let my readers know about this outrage in my blog post about becoming fosters! The very idea of some cats living with Mom L in my her our office!

The two boys, Rocky, the tuxie boy, and Jessie, the white and black boy, were restricted to an enclosure for a day or so. They were not happy as they had been living in the great outdoors.

These two crazy pants boy cats were soon ripping around My Mom L’s OUR office, knocking stuff off our desk and right down into their water bowl!! (please hover over photos for kitten captions)

They liked to keep an eye on the neighborhood and check out what the neighbor dogs and cats were up to.

Did you see that Rocky? Yeah Jessie, unreal, huh?

Rocky and Jessie were none too impressed with their first experience at a Petco adoption event.

Hey Jessie? Don’t ya wanna just break outta here?

They had to stay caged for three hours two days in a row. You can see how exhausted they were after such a traumatic experience.

Zzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Mom L convinced Dad P that they really ought to bring the sister, gray and white Chloe, to my castle as well so’s they could socialize her even more. Next thing I knew, she showed up!

Chloe wasn’t too sure about her brothers.

Get away from my butt buddy!

It was three weeks since they last saw each other. But soon Rocky Rockstar had her playing with him. I am sure she never thought he would be so bold as to try to share her new fave napping spot on the cat tower.

Gee whiz brother, stop being a bed hog!

Can you tell what a harummpf Chloe was in with brazen Rocky! And then look at them just a few minutes later.

Can’t beat ’em, join ’em

Before long they were all kitten piled in the same cat tower. You can see it was a bit over crowded!!

The weekend adoption events were not gonna be possible any longer because Mom L and Dad P were headed off for a week away. They couldn’t keep the kittens. What to do, what to do??

Kazamm!! Contra Costa Humane Society had enough space in their Kitty Corner for the three siblings to ALL go there. They were to share a special suite with another kitten named Smokey.

They were nervous at first.

But last we heard, they were hanging out, playing and they had pulled shy Smokey out of her hiding hole and she was right there in the midst of them all!

Paw crossed these three former foster kittens are adopted in a nod and a wink! We have put together a small Adoption To Go kit for each which has brand new versions of their favorite toys from my castle. Here are the photos Kitty Corner used on their website.

Here’s Rocky Rockstar!

Next up is Chloe Cutie Pie.

And the ever suave Jessie da’ Man!

I’ll let ya know when they are adopted.

Cat Rescue Work Keeps Going

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I’ve been going on and on about our move, and I do have more to say about that, but you know Mom L and Dad P did NOT stop doing what they could to help shelter cats and community cats.

We had only been in our new home about ten days and it was time for the July SNIP (Spay Neuter Impact Program) Clinic. Mom L and Dad P never hesitated—they signed up for their usual full shifts. You can learn more about SNIP if you read some of my earlier posts here and here.

There were eighty-five cats who passed through this last clinic, one was lovingly helped to The Bridge as he was very ill. A full clinic and every single human hand was needed to make this happen. At the last minute Mom L learned there were not enough Vets and it would be cancelled. And then a miracle—Miss Eileen who is a primary organizer for SNIP sent out a plea to Vets across the San Francisco Bay Area and they come through! One Vet clinic owner brought several of his vets and vet techs!! Success!!!

Thought you would enjoy seeing some of the kitties. Their eyes reveal how frightened they are but if only they understood how much this clinic will improve their quality of life.

These pretty Siamese girls came in from a community member who trapped them in her back yard.

Only one would turn around for Mom L, the other gave her backside view! They had to be transferred to individual cat traps to be admitted because the clinic does not allow cats to come through in cat carriers. The policy is in place to try to insure member of the public do not use this clinic to S/N their own pets. This clinic is solely for S/N and vaccinate community cats.

Two more “worried eyes” Mom L checked in for their SNIP experience.

Dad P and Mom L also responded with a “no problem” when the Adoption Manager from Contra Costa Humane Society asked if they could transport eight adult cats from the county animal shelter to my old home at Kitty Corner!! And we were STILL in the process of getting moved! Be sure to hover over photos for captions!

Now you all know that even though I still have lots to share about my move, my Paw It Forward work continues—let me know in comments what you have been doin’ lately to Paw It Forward.

Pawing Forward: Mandy’s (aka Momma Kat) Hope Chest Brings Joy to Others

HIYA!!   SAVANNAH HERE!!!

So pleased to have you stop by to learn what I have been able to do with the contents of Mandy’s Hope Chest (aka Momma Kat). As you know from my previous post, Mandy’s guardian, now her adopter, never gave her a name—I thought Mandy suited her perfectly. And sadly, her adopter also adopted all five of her kittens so none will ever have opportunity to have their very own homes and caring humans. The adopter has many other cats and often fosters so as the adopter stated “I don’t have a lot of time to do anything but clean and feed”. I regret to say that Mandy and her five kittens, now about a year old, will seldom have the enrichment they so deserve.

That is the real story behind Mandy’s “adoption and permanent home”. Based on the lack of interest on the part of the adopter, in the contents of Mandy’s Hope Chest, I made a decision. I am a cat and that is my prerogative, right???

Contra Costa Humane Society (CCHS), my former shelter for a whole year, pulled two adult cats from my county’s public shelter—both were hit by cars as was Mandy. I know that Mandy would want her Hope Chest contents to find a meaningful home and now they have. You all remember Mandy’s heroic story about being hit by a car and making sure she got home to care for her tiny kittens—here

I already introduced you to Bailey and CJ aka Charming Jack who are the recipients of Mandy’s generosity.

Both have name changes which you are gonna really truly love.

This post is all about Bailey, now carrying the ultra-cool name of NITRO!

Of course The Kid Sage had to help in splitting up all the goodies and packing it for delivery.

Sweet! Nice stuff. I have no idea where I can stash all of this

Sadly for TKS, her bin was not gonna have anything in it but her.

WHAT??!! You’re gonna ship me somewhere? Wait? What?!

MEET NITRO—Super Hero

Okay, so why am I hangin’ around here?

Bailey was being fed along with many other feral and stray kitties by two or three very kind people and businesses. They were hangin’ out behind a TV shop in a sort’a strip mall.

The rescuer, who noticed Bailey’s eye was really infected, suspects he was left by some human “squatters” who lived behind that shop for a while. Bailey was super duper friendly and the rescuer knew he was not a feral cat.

Fast forward, and Bailey was brought to my county’s public shelter where he was treated for both a fractured jaw as well as an eye injury so serious they had to remove his right eye.

At that time CCHS pulled Bailey and welcome him to Kitty Corner. I don’t think he was there more than about a week, and his new family were drawn by universal cat energy straight to Bailey. The oldest child, Mr. Christopher,  knew right away that Bailey was not only his cat, but he also knew that Bailey was not his REAL NAME!!!

Mr. Christopher and Nitro

Mr Christopher looked around at the other cats and CCHS and then his eyes found Bailey. Christopher turned to his Mom and said “that’s our cat Mom!”

And how could a Mom say no to a son, six years old, who never once cared that Bailey had only one eye. All he saw was a new family member he was ready to love and cherish.

As for Bailey’s permanent name—well Mr. Christopher knew just what it must be. Again, Mr. Christopher tuned to his Mom and said “Mom, his name isn’t Bailey—it’s Nitro!” His Mom said how do you know that?  Mr. Christopher replied “He survived being hit by a car so he is a super hero!”

And there you have it, Nitro is loved by both his young caretakers, Mr. Christopher, six years old, and Mr. Raj who is three years old.

I hope all who read this post realize that Mr. Christopher never ever once noticed that Nitro was missing one eye. All Mr. Christopher saw was a kitty he would love and care for forever.

Loved by two super kids!

As you all know, humans think they “rescue” us cats in shelters, but what they don’t always count on is how “we” , the “cat” rescue them right back.

Mr. Raj gets restless at night and was moving to join his parents in bed about one to two AM most morning. Once Nitro arrived, within the first week or so, he was sleeping with the adult humans, but when he heard Mr. Raj stirring, he moved to do his job. Nitro slips from the adults’ bed to join Mr. Raj and snuggle close so Mr. Raj knows he is safe and loved. Nice, right?

I will keep him sage, purromise

As for the contents of Mandy’s Hope Chest, I split it between Nitro and another adult cat hit by a car named CJ. You will meet him and hear his story on my Wednesday blog post.

Please enjoy viewing some photos of Nitro as he explores and appreciates his gifts from Mandy.

Be sure to join me again on Wednesday to learn al about CJ and his new name and family.
