Fitness For Cats…Building Stronger Abs

Hiya All, Savannah here again

As  you may remember, this is my autobiography about how I, as an adult cat rescued from a no kill shelter, work through my recovery process.

So, I have spent lots of time chatting about my mental recovery…ya know…the stuff about trusting humans…not running every time my Mom or Dad try to walk past me or reach toward me…stuff like that. And of course I have shared lots of my Life Experiences.

Now I need to give you some insight into my Fitness Recovery. Ya see, at the shelter where Mom and Dad found me, well, ahhhh, ummmm I was pretty much shut down…I just hid out all day and then became a “night grazer”…I was totally famished by the time all the people left and the other cats went to sleep.  So I snuck out at night to eat as much as I could and make a fast trip to the litter boxes.

So, truth be told, yeah yeah…I kind’a got a bit of a largish butt going there and well, ahhh, maybe a bit of a tummy issue too.  Anyway, everyone was just too nice at the shelter to say anything…and I know the other cats noticed and talked behind my back.

So now I am working on my Fitness Recovery with Dad and Mom. Even though Mom thinks I mostly just have big bones…I still need to do some shaping up.  I have aerobic workout routines…ya know, running after the red dot and chasing my feather cat dancer toy…

(Short aerobic routine)

OK OK…I SAID it was SHORT…but if ya do this about 20 laps…gets the heart rate up, burns off lots of those nasty unwanted carbs.

Now the hardest Fitness Routine is the suff I do for core strengthening…ya know…getting tighter abs, especially those hard to get to obliques!  So Mom has been taking this class called Pilates for about umpteen years…and she came up with this routine to help me get to those obliques…  First I roll my hind legs to one side, then I use my obliques to move them back over to the other side. And keep repeating it…I try to do at least 6 reps in 3 sets every night before bedtime.

(Core Strengthening: Abs)

Now the real work is in the first few seconds of the video…but ya get the idea…huh?!

Well…yaaaawwwnnn, uh, um excuse me.  Just watching made me kind’a tired.  So I’m gonna go take a little nap…

Some of My Favorite Things

Just some stuff I thought I ought’a share with you guys ‘cuz it means lots to me.

So first…as you can probably already guess…YEP…my BLUE BLANKIE! I love love love my blue afghan blankie and it has a bit of history. A really nice co-worker made this for my Mom 40 years ago!!! Mom picked out the pattern, something called “Popcorn” she thinks and she picked out the color of the yarn.

So this afghan blankie was also my step sister Tasha’s fav too…Tasha went OTRB Sept. 2011. So now the blue afghan is mine…all mine!  It is the most comfortable spot for me to sleep and play. Wish I could drag it around the house with me MOL!!!

Here is some detail

You can see why I like it so much…so soft and warm…uummm

Now here are some of my fav toys…these are the ones I need Mom and Dad to be able to play with…

AND FINALLY…TA DA!!!! ALL NEW TOYS MOM SURPRISED ME WITH TODAY

so, you can tell I have it pretty good here…Dad held my paws and gave me lots of reasuring pets when we had an awful noisy thunderstorm last night…and we NEVER have stuff like that here in the SF Bay Area!

Finally, here is me…and you can tell…I kind’a don’t even know what the heck to do with so many toys!!  I never had anyone give me so many just for me…all mine…and brand new…not hand me downs…(wiping tears with paws…sniff…sigh…purrrrrrr) Home At Last

Have a Pawsome Weekend…paw pats and paw hugs

NO TIME LIKE PLAY TIME (REVISED)

(REVISED…ok, ok…Mom was away and I totally tried to post this myself…kind’a messed it up…my paws are furry and I hit some wrong keys…but Mom thinks she has it fixed…so here it is meowmeow)

People who used to know

 me would be soooo surprised!

YEP! I love love love to play!  Check out some of my moves!
This one is kind’a easy…just wish it was for real! Like attached to a birdie…ummmnummmers

Now here comes the green cat dancer feather thingy…always makes me crazy! Notice I am using the single left paw reach on this move…

…then when I lure it onto the bed, and finally get it right over me…it thinks I am like sleeping or something…crazy cat dancer!  Anyway, then I do the old single left paw reach high and grab!!! Pull it right out of the sky!!

Mine, all mine…yummy!!!
Ya’know, some people who used to know me at my last really wonderful shelter…well, they kind’a thought I wasn’t the playful kind’a cat.  Mostly ‘cuz I hid a lot ‘cuz I was totally afraid of everything and everyone…and I really hurt lots of the time ‘cuz no one knew I had a bladder infection…like my piddle felt like cut glass (ouch! yowl!)  Not anyone’s fault, no one could know ‘cuz there were 10 of us at the shelter, rescued from certain death if we were left at the public county shelter…no complaints from this cat for sure.
But…just sayin’…you can see I really DO play.  When I went home with my Mom, they told her not to bother taking any toys ‘cuz “Savannah never plays…”…not true…I may be 5 years old…but even a scared cat like me will often come out of her shell just to play with a toy.  Please remember that the next time you see a cat who seems to be stand off’ish…try a toy…gently like my Mom and Dad did…and I betcha’ that cat responds in a good way. Puuurrrrrr
Paw hugs and paw strokes to all homeless cats…makes tears in my eyes…hug your cats close
