Whew! What a Workout!

Well, Mom and Dad left me alone all day yesterday…then last night…OH MY CAT!!

They decided I needed to do my WHOLE workout routine at ONE TIME!! I was ready for bed, but said “what the heck…I can do this!”  Even tho’ I, personally, had been very busy during the day…what with first watching the bedroom and hummer feeder outside…

Then I had to go do interior patrols…sittin’ on my cat tower to watch the finches and doves…err..umm…to make sure nothing was gonna get in the house from outside…then I had to go up and down the stairs, and watch the side yard from upstairs to make sure nothing could climb the wall and get in…’course I may have taken a little nap at each patrol station…

Soooo….they decide I need some exercise just ‘cuz THEY didn’t get any…so first they had me do about a catjillion reps of my core workout…ya know the one where you have to squeeze your abs tight to flip from side to side…and I had to do 2 sets!

Then they want me to get goin’ on my aerobic stuff to get my heart rate up and all…ya know this one…chase that stupid red dot you can never catch…

So first, ya have to see it…

…now get a good focus on it…

 

…next get it right between your paws for contol…

 ..aaiiieee yowl! it got away..run..

..then use your hind legs and try to pounce on it from above…

…now just breathe…and ignore it!

Then I catch my breath thinking Mom will be tired by now…but nooooooooo…she says there is still the upper body workout to do…ya know…building your chest, back, front legs…gettin’ good eye–prey—paw coordination…so out comes the green feather thingy (which I luvluvluv) but Oh Cat!…I’m getting a bit tired here…

So first I spot it moving over my head…

..then I use my upper body to pummel it

Well, now I am totally exhausted…I need a snack and my pets and my bed…I don’t think I will be so hard on the staff next time they take a day away.  Just sayin….

Progress, Progress, Progress…

Hiya again, Savannah here…

So here’s the low down on some progress in my mental recovery.  Just  happened last night at din din time.  I always wait until Dad leaves the feeding station before I stroll over to eat… (he feeds me so’s he can develop relationship with me ‘cuz I’m still afraid of huMAN peeps)…so…last night I was hanging out in my cat tower and Dad waved my soft food in a bowl at me…he called me…”here Savannah banana…here Princess” (he is so darn cute!)

So…he leaves the bowl of food on the kitchen counter and is talkin’ with Mom who is making their peep’s nomnoms…so I stroll through the dining room into the kitchen doorway…WHOA! and there they both are…we all just stop and watch each other…THEN…Dad carefully walks past me—AND I DON”T RUN…puts my food down and comes back past me again (WHOA scary for both of us)…THEN, I suck in a humongous breath…and act casual…and stroll over to my food bowl and start eating!!!!!!!! WHILE THEY ARE RIGHT THERE!  I ACTUALLY CAME WHEN DAD CALLED ME!

Seriously guys…this is totally huge progress for me.  I stayed right there while they were on the other side of the breakfast bar making their nomnoms, and I finished my whhhoooolllle dindin.  Then I walked right across the family room…in front of them…licking my chops!

HIGH PAWS WITH ME EVERYONE!  That’s me eatin’ by the breakfast bar…cool huh?!

Then later, I played some with Dad….just so he knew I was seriouly wanting his attention…

and now the final PROGRESS for yesterday…wait for it…wait for it…..

TA DA! Slept right next to DAD all night long! Yep, I flooped right down on his legs and never left…even had my head facing toward him instead of my ususal butt facing the top of the bed like I usually do even with Mom…all you cats know…facing the top of the bed takes courage…ya really gotta feel safe to put your head closest…always safer to have the butt facing up in case ya need to slam out of bed for danger or just to do the perimeter check of the house….

So, that’s my PROGRESS on the food and playing and sleeping  with Dad front…I’ll give ya a video for tomorrow on Wordless Wednesday…pretty cool one even if I do say so myself..MOL

Fitness For Cats…Building Stronger Abs

Hiya All, Savannah here again

As  you may remember, this is my autobiography about how I, as an adult cat rescued from a no kill shelter, work through my recovery process.

So, I have spent lots of time chatting about my mental recovery…ya know…the stuff about trusting humans…not running every time my Mom or Dad try to walk past me or reach toward me…stuff like that. And of course I have shared lots of my Life Experiences.

Now I need to give you some insight into my Fitness Recovery. Ya see, at the shelter where Mom and Dad found me, well, ahhhh, ummmm I was pretty much shut down…I just hid out all day and then became a “night grazer”…I was totally famished by the time all the people left and the other cats went to sleep.  So I snuck out at night to eat as much as I could and make a fast trip to the litter boxes.

So, truth be told, yeah yeah…I kind’a got a bit of a largish butt going there and well, ahhh, maybe a bit of a tummy issue too.  Anyway, everyone was just too nice at the shelter to say anything…and I know the other cats noticed and talked behind my back.

So now I am working on my Fitness Recovery with Dad and Mom. Even though Mom thinks I mostly just have big bones…I still need to do some shaping up.  I have aerobic workout routines…ya know, running after the red dot and chasing my feather cat dancer toy…

OK OK…I SAID it was SHORT…but if ya do this about 20 laps…gets the heart rate up, burns off lots of those nasty unwanted carbs.

Now the hardest Fitness Routine is the suff I do for core strengthening…ya know…getting tighter abs, especially those hard to get to obliques!  So Mom has been taking this class called Pilates for about umpteen years…and she came up with this routine to help me get to those obliques…  First I roll my hind legs to one side, then I use my obliques to move them back over to the other side. And keep repeating it…I try to do at least 6 reps in 3 sets every night before bedtime.

Now the real work is in the first few seconds of the video…but ya get the idea…huh?!

Well…yaaaawwwnnn, uh, um excuse me.  Just watching made me kind’a tired.  So I’m gonna go take a little nap…
