Pumpkin the Abandoned Adult Cat—A Happy Tails Ending

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

Do you remember my Paw It Forward Project to help get Pumpkin, an abandoned adult cat, away from living on a street corner?

Mom L did an “owner surrender” of Pumpkin to our wonderful Contra Costa Animal Services shelter. There were no fees and if he did not adjust to living in the shelter Mom L could pull him back and return him to the home on his street corner. Apparently from what Mom L learned from his feeder Miss Kandi, he has been living on the street corner for over fifteen months after being abandoned by tenants in the apartments on that corner. Miss Kandi was more the willing to continue to feed and care for Pumpkin if he found the animal shelter too much to bear.

Here is where he lived for all those months, in summer heat and last winter’s heavy rains.

This is the other side of “Pumpkin’s Corner”.

He lived under the plants and on the redwood bark chips

All those bark chips made it so hard for Pumpkin to keep his lovely white socks clean. He ate behind an electrical box and watched longingly as the world passed him by on his corner.

Well times changed for Pumpkin as soon as he arrived at the shelter.

Hmmm…this might not be too bad

They shaved off lots of his fur mattes and he found he could groom himself better without living in that redwood bark chip. And he also realized he liked being held.

Yup!! I am gonna really like this a ton!!!

Pumpkin was immediately placed in the shelter free roaming Kitty Korner where he had not problem with the other cats. That led the San Francisco SPCA to pull him within less than a week!! The SF SPCA has large free roaming cat rooms and they knew Pumpkin was going to fit right in.

Mom L doesn’t know “where” Pumpkin’s forever home is. BUT—Mom L never even saw him go up on their website! Rumor has it that it is likely that someone who works at the SF SPCA saw Pumpkin and adopted him for their very own!!

I like to think that Pumpkin is living in some snazzy San Francisco penthouse and dining on caviar served to him in Waterford crystal!!

Now don’t ya think this deserves to be titled a “Happy Tails Ending”??? Let me know what you think in comments!!

Friday Memes to Get You Smiling

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I have two silly memes and a third that is darn special. Take a look at all three and let me hear from you in comments if you like them.

First up is Pumpkin, the adult male cat Mom L and Dad P helped his feeder, Miss Kandi, rescue from a street corner in our neighborhood. Clearly, Pumpkin hasn’t been starvin’ livin’ outside as an abandoned cat for the last fifteen months. His full story will be featured really soon right here on Savannah’s Paw Tracks!!

TKS wanted to toss in a silly dilly meme she came up with when she helped open our Secret Santa Paws package today.

My third meme is also a request to help me with my latest PAW IT FORWARD PROJECT. As you know, I have allowed welcomed into my castle a four month old little girl kitten named Andi. Mom L and Dad P fostered her up until yesterday. Then it was time for her to start bein’ more visible so’s her forever family can find her more easily. Andi is now hanging out at my former shelter, Kitty Corner.

The Story: Sunday Selfie Mystery Guest

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

I have always wanted to say this even though there probably aren’t any more news presses that work these days—

I am certain you all remember my blog post about the mom cat and her kitten who are our first successful cat trap effort. Well, mom cat aka Mandi and her kitten aka Boogie, have been living for a week in my our office, in those luxurious cages I shared last week.

Boogie clearly showed signs of being open to human touch and interaction.

So we are already set up for her to move to Kitty Corner once Mom L and Dad P have her more socialized. Right now they are teaching her how to play with humans. More on that next week, so stay tuned.

It broke Dad P and Mom L’s hearts, but we had to release Mandi back to her home at the lodge where she was trapped. After a week, she still had little interest in human interaction. But, there is still hope for Mandi. Her feeder, Miss Kandi, is working with her to try to get her to allow pets. At least Mandi won’t ever have more kittens to care for as she is about five years old. She needs to enjoy her life without kittens to care for.

Mandi was very much ready to go home too.

She clearly knew exactly where she was once she was released. Please watch this eleven second video. You can see that Mandi knew she was home the way she darts behind that wooden pallet, her refuge for over a year or more.

Miss Kandi continues to feed Mandi and we hope their bond will continue to grow so that we may once again offer Mandi the opportunity of being adopted into a caring home.

The same day that Mom L and Miss Kandi released mom cat Mandi, I also had Mom L taking care of another adult abandoned cat on the opposite street corner. Miss Kandi has named him Pumpkin! And that fits for sure!!!

Pumpkin is fortunate that my former cat, Vet Dr. Josie, was willing to travel to Pumpkin’s Corner and administer his rabies, FVRCP and flea treatment— right on the street corner he calls home! And that is how Dr. Josie rolls—anything for the kitties!!

Pumpkin needed those vaccinations to be able to allow Mom L to take him to our public animal shelter where he well go on temporary “Owner Surrender” status to learn if he can tolerate being in the shelter while he waits for an adopter. Mom L can spring him loose in three days if he doesn’t adjust well. Pumpkin is so friendly, loves pets, purrs, can be picked up—he just needs a chance at a new home. You see, his former “family” abandoned him on that street corner when they moved from the apartment complex. He is likely a senior cat.

So there was one more Paw It Forward Project over the weekend. Miss Kandi had a new male kitty to join her little 6 pack over where she works. His name is Sweet Pea and he was not neutered. So Mom L and Dad P got him into the new cat clinic for Community Concern 4 Cats just this morning.
