UPDATES: Former Adopted Fosters!!

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

We just received updated photos from two of my former castle foster guests. Do you remember Mackenzie? She was about five years old, abandoned and injured with severe abscessed punctures on her tummy. And do you remember Pipsqueak? We trapped him when he was about ten weeks old, for neuter and release, then realized he had an eye injury.

Pip is now about two years old. And he is living the best life with his pal Barsik, and Pip also has a new name, Begemot. Both are Russian names because his human Mom is from Russia!

Begemot aka (our) Pip, was so little. He was the smallest in the litter of six kittens we trapped in mid-2020. But look at him now! He is soooo floofy!! Not sure how much he weighs, but looks like about eight to nine pounds.

Pipsqueak was such a character and so much fun. His eye injury did not bother him one bit.

We cleared it up as best we could. However, as you can see, he still has a blocked tear duct and a bit of cloudiness from scaring. Check out his awesome toe tufts!!

Right before receiving our update on Begemot (Pip), we received an update on Mackenzie, now Momo. She was about five years old, abandoned and living in a neighbor’s back yard. We discovered that she had a severe injury on her tummy and Mom L’s retire DVM pal Doc Josie, performed surgery to clean and repair her tummy abscesses.

Momo is now an adventure cat!! Her human Mom trained her to a harness and leash and now she gets to go outside for walkies and sniff the flowers! She also does yoga with her Mom and she helps her with her art projects like crocheting and painting.

Her Mom made this stuffed Momo!! Isn’t she cute??

What a way to start February!

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

This was one crazy pants week last week!! At least in the world of rescue and humane management of abandoned community cats. Pardon me if I bore you with a long post, but oh well! It’s my bloggy, right?? MOL!!

We started the week with what we thought was a “new” cat that was dumped at our park colony. The cat is friendly for sure. But, when Mom L got a microchip check, that kitty was chipped to HER!!! Back in 2018!!! From the park!!! Mom L finally (*smacking hand to forehead) figured out that this cat was one she thought was friendly and could be adopted so she took it to our “back then” partners at our county animal shelter. The cat was pronounced “feral” and Mom L had to return it to the colony. She disappeared until NOW!!!

Talk about us cats having nine lives! This cat is about 5 years old. No telling where she has been. We fostered her for a short time and now she has been with the best kitty foster ever, Miss Yasmin! Because of Miss Yasmin’s way with scared, abandoned cats, Senorita is on her way to adoptions this coming weekend!! Her foster adores her! You can see her eating when she returned to the park and now look at her looking at her foster with such adoration in her eyes!! Her name is “Señorita”. Please send her purrs of encouragement for her first time at the adoption even this coming Saturday!!

And not a day past by before my kitty sitter Miss Kandi called for help with one of her colony cats, Sweet Pea, that was walking like a tripod! This darling boy has been in Miss Kandi’s care for twelve years!! He gets fed mid-day and Miss Kandi sits with him in her van for about an hour so he can eat and then spend time in her lap getting and giving nose kisses! So Sweet Pea came to my castle over night and then Mom L took him for medical treatment from our county shelter. They were kind to him but nonetheless, Sweet Pea turned “feral” acting and any exam took sedation. Long story short, he is a senior mancat and likely has arthritis.

But check him out as he transitions behavior from being in a trap to being in Miss Kandi’s arms within thirty seconds of leaving that trap at my castle garage!

Out of the trap and out of the shelter!

Sweet Pea wanted to be back outside and that is where he will live out his life. My nonprofit, Delta View Cats, will make sure that Sweet Pea has a heated shelter where he normally sleeps. The resident at that home offered to run an electric cord for power out his window! And Sweet Pea will live out his nine lives loved and cherished by Miss Kandi and Delta View Cats.

I know you think that was enough for one week—but not in the world of community cat TNR and rescue. Remember, this is all happening in just one week!

A couple of our volunteers have been trying to trap a mom cat at their apartment complex for months and months! She has had four litters in three years! They have fostered the kittens from two of those litters. Finally, they trapped her!!! WOO HOO!!! And they also trapped another young female, less than a year old. Mom L and Dad P offered to recover the two girls as they need to be kept for a minimum of four to six nights. The black mom cat was in heat and the gray juvenile girl was pregnant with six kittens!

You can see mom cat outside the apartment complex, and then both of them as they are being transported to their “freedom” called SPAY surgeries, and then recovering in my castle garage.

The mom cat will likely be released in another 5 days, but the gray girl, named in the Nahuatl language as Tozi (Aztec goddess of healing and sweet water) will be going to Miss Yasmin for foster and then on to adoptions. So about my current castle guests—

HIYA!! SAVANNAH HERE!!!

So I had a bunch of my readers askin’ about my newest “castle guests” ~~“introoders”~~. So yeah, it’s been a rough couple of years for me to maintain order and ~~submission~~ tolerance in my castle. Our county animal services stopped without tell’in any community cat that they aren’t gonna help the friendly adults and the healthy kittens get adopted. Period! Sigh—they told our Delta View Cats that from now on managing our county’s overpopulation of abandoned community cats is up to us little guys, the nonprofits and our cities, to take care of this county wide debacle!! AIIIEEEE!!!

So here we are, in my castle, not expect’in to be doing much in the “foster cat” arena and we are smack dab in the middle of it!! So my castle has become a kind’a revolving cat flap of fosters.

The newest threesome: Eowyn, the calico and about six months old; Arwen, the “torbie” and a cerebral hypoplasia kitten (CH); and her brother Frodo. All named after characters in The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. Mom L’s fave books for decades!!

All three kitties were abandoned at the city waterfront park where Delta View Cats manages a 12-15 member cat colony. Two weeks ago, about dusk time, one of our colony feeders called Mom L to let her know there was an older kitty (Eowyn) and three littles that had clearly just been dumped at this waterfront park. Mom L dashed over and she picked up the one very ill kitten that the feeder could easily capture—he named him “Dancer”. A little Siamese, barely six to eight weeks old, who could do nothing but spin in circles. The feeder fostered the baby over night and Mom L took him to our only treatment option, our county animal services. Their medical staff determined that sweet Dancer was so neurologically damaged that he could not be treated nor adopted. Dance was humanely euthanized. He had very severe cerebral hypoplasia (CH)

Dad P and four other Delta View Cats volunteers went to the park the next night, and after two hours, they were able to capture all three of the remaining young kitties. Of course, Dad P and Mom L brought them to ~~MY CASTLE~~ our home for comfort and help in socializing them for adoption.

Eowyn, the six month old calico, we thought might be their mom cat, showed us immediately that she was the most friendly six month old kitten ever!! You can see that our feeder was able to pet her immediately. And that is her lounging in a cage as soon as we brought her home to foster.

Eowyn is such a snuggle bug, crazy pants high energy playful young lady. She went through her first “heat” with us the day she arrived. YIKES!! The noise!! But Mom L and Dad P comforted her for six days and then she was through that. And now she is spayed!!

And yes, she is reclining on Mom L’s shelf ABOVE her monitor!! She is a climber!1

And Frodo and Arwen are indeed bonded siblings. Frodo only has a teeny bit of CH while Arwen’s is visibly noticeable. Nonetheless, Arwen give as good as she gets during play sessions !!

And cutie pie Frodo is a wonderful big brother to his CH sister Arwen. Frodo snuggles with her and he always protects her—except when he has his favorite mousie wand toy to protect!!

And the three are so joyful when they are together. Eowyn cleans them when she can hold them still!! And she teaches them how to hide our in “TAG! You’re it!”
